The 2025 Skin Trends Worth Your Time, With Dr Olivia McCormack
Every January brings a fresh wave of predictions about what our faces are supposed to look like for the year ahead. Most of it is noise. But some of it points to a genuine shift in how people are thinking about aesthetic treatment, and that shift is one we welcome at Wellface.
I see it clearly in clinic. The mood for 2025 is quieter than it has been for years. Fewer dramatic overhauls, less obvious work, more attention paid to the quality of the skin itself. Patients are coming in and asking to look like themselves, only fresher, brighter and a little more rested. The word I keep using is tweak, not transform.
This post walks through the treatments and ideas I expect to define the year, from collagen-stimulating polynucleotides to hybrid injectables, skin boosters and the devices we run at our clinics. None of it is about changing who you are. It is about looking after the face you already have.
The move towards natural: why less is the new more
For a long time, the loudest results won attention. Very full lips, sharply defined cheeks, a look that announced itself the moment someone walked into a room. That style has had its day for a lot of people, and the reaction has swung towards something far more restrained.
I describe the goal as looking lifted and glowing without anyone being able to put their finger on why. When it is done well, friends assume you have been on holiday or finally started sleeping properly. They do not assume you have been to a clinic. That is the standard the natural approach sets, and it is harder to achieve than it sounds. Subtle work asks more of the practitioner, not less, because there is nowhere to hide and the margins are fine.
It also changes what we prioritise. Instead of leading with structural filler to reshape a face, more of my conversations now start with skin quality. Texture, tone, firmness, that inner glow that healthy skin has and tired skin loses. Get the canvas right and you often need far less of everything else. This is the thread running through almost every treatment gaining ground in 2025.
Polynucleotides: the collagen booster you can use almost anywhere
If one treatment sums up the year, it is polynucleotides. They have moved from a niche interest to something I am using, in my own words, anywhere and everywhere.
Polynucleotides are purified fragments of DNA, most commonly derived from salmon or trout, prepared to a high medical grade so they are compatible with human skin. When injected, they do two things at once. They hydrate the tissue and they act as a biostimulator, waking up the fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. Over a course of treatment the skin becomes firmer, smoother and more resilient, and it tends to look calmer too, with less redness and irritation.
What makes them so versatile is how gentle they are. We work with well-established ranges from Mastelli and use them across the face, the delicate skin around the eyes, the neck, the hands, the body and even the scalp to support hair. The under-eye area is one of the most rewarding. Thin, crepey skin that has always been difficult to treat responds beautifully, softening without adding volume or risking puffiness.
What a course involves
Polynucleotides work cumulatively, so this is not a single-appointment treatment. Most people start with a short course, often two or three sessions spaced a few weeks apart, then maintain the results with occasional top-ups. Sessions are quick and comfortable, with only fine injection points and very little downtime. You might have a little redness or a few tiny bumps that settle within a day or so. It is the kind of thing many patients fit in around work without anyone noticing.
Biostimulators and HArmonyCa: lift that builds from within
Sitting on the same wavelength as polynucleotides, as I like to put it, is the wider family of biostimulators. These are treatments that do not simply fill a space but prompt your own body to produce more collagen over time. The effect builds gradually and looks natural precisely because it is your own tissue doing the work.
HArmonyCa is the one I am most excited about. It is a hybrid injectable that combines calcium hydroxyapatite, a well-known collagen stimulator, with hyaluronic acid. That pairing gives it a clever dual action. The hyaluronic acid provides a degree of immediate lift and hydration, so you see a result on the day, while the calcium hydroxyapatite kickstarts collagen production underneath, so the skin continues to firm and improve over the following weeks and months.
For the right patient it is a lovely way to restore a little structure and lift to areas that have softened with age, along the cheeks and jawline in particular, without the heaviness that too much traditional filler can bring. The keyword, again, is subtlety. Done properly, HArmonyCa keeps you looking like you, just a touch more lifted and refreshed. It is not the right choice for everyone, which is exactly why a proper assessment matters before any injectable biostimulator.
Skin boosters and Profhilo through the winter
Skin boosters are the third pillar of the natural approach, and Profhilo remains one of our firm favourites. I expect it to be a consistent winner throughout 2025, and the drier winter months are one of the best times to have it.
Profhilo is a highly concentrated form of stabilised hyaluronic acid. Unlike a traditional filler, it is not designed to add shape. Instead it spreads through the skin after injection, delivering deep hydration and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. The result is skin that looks plumper, more even and noticeably more radiant, with better bounce and firmness. It is placed using a small number of precise injection points, often five on each side of the face, following an established mapping technique.
Winter is hard on skin. Cold air outside, dry heated air inside, and the general dullness that comes with less daylight all take their toll. That is when the hydrating, restorative qualities of a skin booster really earn their place. A typical Profhilo course is two sessions about four weeks apart, with results maintained by a top-up roughly every six months. Many patients describe the glow as the thing friends comment on first.
The devices: BBL, Morpheus8 and SkinPen
Injectables are only half the picture. At our Cobham clinic in particular we have invested in advanced devices that address concerns injectables cannot, and I am quick to remind patients not to forget them.
BBL for sun damage and clarity
BBL, or BroadBand Light, from Sciton is our answer to the aftermath of a sunny summer. If you have spent months enjoying the outdoors, this is the season to address what the sun has left behind. BBL uses precisely calibrated pulses of light to target pigmentation, sun damage, redness and broken capillaries, breaking down the unwanted colour so the skin looks clearer, brighter and more even. It is one of the most satisfying treatments for anyone frustrated by brown patches or a ruddy, uneven complexion. We treat pigmentation more aggressively in the cooler, darker months precisely because your skin is not being exposed to strong sun afterwards, which keeps results stable and reduces the risk of new pigment forming.
Morpheus8 for tightening and contour
Morpheus8 pairs microneedling with radiofrequency energy. The tiny needles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin while delivering heat into the deeper layers, and that combination drives collagen remodelling and tightening from within. It is one of the best non-surgical options for firming skin and refining the contour of the lower face and jawline. Results develop over the weeks and months following a course as new collagen forms, which is why it fits so neatly into the natural, build-from-within philosophy the rest of this list follows.
SkinPen for everyday skin quality
SkinPen is a medical microneedling device that improves overall skin quality, softening fine lines, refining texture and helping with scarring. It is a dependable, gentle workhorse that suits a huge range of skin types and pairs well with other treatments. For patients who want steady improvement in how their skin looks and feels without anything dramatic, it is an easy place to begin.
Common questions about 2025 skin treatments
Which treatment should I start with?
That depends entirely on your skin and what is bothering you most. Someone worried about dullness and hydration might begin with Profhilo or polynucleotides, while someone troubled by sun spots would be better served by BBL. Rather than choosing from a list, it is worth having a proper consultation so we can assess your skin and build a plan around your priorities and your calendar.
Can these treatments be combined?
Yes, and they often work best together. Many of my patients run a course of a skin booster or polynucleotides alongside device treatments, staggered sensibly over the year. Injectables that improve skin quality complement devices that tighten or clear pigmentation, and a doctor will sequence them so they support rather than compete with each other.
Is there much downtime?
For most of these treatments, very little. Polynucleotides, Profhilo and SkinPen typically involve some minor redness or small bumps that settle within a day or two. BBL can leave pigmentation looking temporarily darker as it lifts, which flakes away over a week or so. Morpheus8 may cause some redness and a grid-like pattern for a day or two. I will always talk you through what to expect before you commit, so nothing comes as a surprise.
Will people be able to tell I have had something done?
That is rather the point of the natural approach. Done well, these treatments make you look refreshed rather than altered. People notice that you look well without knowing why, which is exactly the outcome I and the team aim for.
How long do the results last?
It varies by treatment. Skin boosters like Profhilo are usually maintained every six months or so, biostimulators such as HArmonyCa can last well over a year as the collagen effect builds and settles, and device results depend on your skin and your aftercare. Consistency matters more than any single appointment, which is why we tend to think in terms of a plan across the year rather than one-off treatments.
Come and plan your year with me
The theme for 2025 is refreshingly simple. Look after your skin, choose treatments that work with your own biology, and keep the results subtle enough that they read as you on a very good day. Whether that means a course of polynucleotides, a HArmonyCa lift, a Profhilo glow, or a device treatment to clear away last summer's sun, the right starting point is a conversation.
I and the wider medical team would be glad to see you at Wellface in Cobham, Esher or Wimbledon. Book a consultation with me and we will assess your skin honestly, talk through what will genuinely make a difference, and put together a plan that fits your life and your goals for the year ahead.
