Anti-Wrinkle Treatment for Men: Why More Guys Are Booking In

WF The Wellface Team Published 29 January 2025 · 8 min read

There's a moment that plays out in our treatment rooms more often than you might think. A man sits down, slightly unsure of himself, and admits he's been thinking about anti-wrinkle injections for a while but wasn't sure whether a place like ours was "for him". Within a few minutes, that hesitation is gone. He's asking good questions, we're talking through what the muscles are actually doing, and the appointment feels no different from any other.

The idea that aesthetics are only for women has been fading for years, and honestly, it's about time. Recently we treated John, who came in for his 2025 anti-wrinkle top-up. He'd had a new baby, he'd been busy, and the lines that soften with treatment had gradually crept back. He wanted to look fresh and rested, not frozen or done. That's a request we hear from men constantly, and it's completely achievable.

If you're a man who's curious but a little self-conscious about the whole thing, this one's for you. Here's how anti-wrinkle treatment actually works, why the approach for men is slightly different, what a session at Wellface involves, and what you can realistically expect.

Anti-wrinkle injections, explained without the jargon

Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein, botulinum toxin, to gently relax specific muscles in the face. When you frown, raise your eyebrows or squint, the muscles underneath contract and the skin above them creases. Over years of repeating those expressions, the creases start to settle in permanently, first as lines you only see when you move, then as lines that are there even at rest.

By softening the pull of those muscles, the skin above them isn't being folded so forcefully every time you make an expression. The dynamic lines relax, and over time the deeper etched-in lines have a chance to smooth out too. The key word is soften. Done well, you keep your natural range of expression. You can still look surprised, still frown, still smile properly. You just do it without the deep grooves.

The three areas most men ask about are the frown lines between the brows (often called the "angry elevens"), the horizontal lines across the forehead, and the fine lines that fan out from the corners of the eyes when you smile. These were exactly the areas we treated for John. During his assessment we asked him to frown hard, then raise his eyebrows, then give a big smile, so we could see precisely where the muscles were creating lines and where they weren't.

Why we assess movement, not just still photos

A good practitioner watches your face move before touching anything. Lines at rest tell one story, but the muscles pulling behind them tell the full one. With John, the frown wasn't dramatic, yet there was a small dimple that formed when he scrunched, and softening that made a real difference to how relaxed he looked. Across the forehead, the aim was to ease the lines rather than erase them, so the brow still moves naturally. Around the eyes, we noticed something important: a little volume loss in one corner. When there's volume loss there, over-treating with anti-wrinkle product can flatten the area further, so we deliberately hold back and keep it light. That kind of judgement only comes from looking closely at the individual in front of you.

Why the approach for men is a little different

Men and women don't share identical facial anatomy, and treatment should reflect that. As a rule, men tend to have stronger, denser muscles in the forehead and brow, along with thicker skin and a richer blood supply to the face. In practice that often means men need a higher dose in certain areas to get an effective, lasting result. Under-dose a strong male frown muscle and the effect can fade quickly or barely register.

Dosage is only half of it. The shape we're aiming for matters just as much. A flat, straight or only slightly arched brow tends to read as more masculine, whereas a high, curved arch can look feminising on a man. So the placement of each injection is planned to relax the lines while protecting the natural brow position. The goal is a man who looks like a well-rested version of himself, not someone who has obviously "had something done".

This is where the doctor-led approach at Wellface really counts. Reading male anatomy, choosing the right dose, and placing product to preserve masculine features is a skill built on training and experience. It's not a one-size template applied to every face.

What a session at Wellface actually involves

The whole thing is quicker and calmer than most people expect. You'll start with a consultation where we talk through what's bothering you, look at how your face moves, and agree a plan. There's no pressure to treat more than you want to. Some men start with just the frown and build from there once they see how natural it looks.

The injections themselves take only a few minutes. We use very fine needles, and the sensation is usually described as a quick pinch or scratch rather than genuine pain. John mentioned that a previous treatment elsewhere had been uncomfortable, so we made a point of being as gentle as possible, working slowly and steadily. Technique makes a real difference to comfort, and it's completely reasonable to ask your practitioner to take their time.

There's no general anaesthetic, no cutting, and no need to lie down recovering afterwards. Most people walk straight back out and carry on with their day, whether that's heading back to work or picking the kids up.

The two-week review

Anti-wrinkle treatment doesn't work instantly. You'll usually notice things starting to soften from around three to five days, with the full effect settling in by about two weeks. That's why we book a review at the two-week mark. It lets us see the result once everything has developed and top up any area that needs a touch more, which is common and completely normal, especially for the strong muscles men often have. It's part of getting the result right, not a sign anything has gone wrong.

Results typically last somewhere in the region of three to four months, though this varies from person to person and depends on the area treated and how active your muscles are. Many men find that with regular, well-spaced treatments the muscles gradually learn to relax, and lines become easier to manage over time.

Aftercare and what to expect afterwards

Aftercare for anti-wrinkle injections is refreshingly simple. For the rest of the day, it's sensible to stay upright for a few hours, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas, and skip heavy exercise, saunas and hot yoga. Giving alcohol a miss on the day is also a good idea. These small steps help keep the product exactly where it was placed.

You might see a few tiny raised bumps or slight redness at the injection points, but these usually settle within an hour or two. Occasionally there can be a small bruise, which is easily covered and fades quickly. There's nothing about the treatment that stops you going about your normal routine, which is a big part of why it suits busy men who can't afford real downtime.

Common questions men ask about anti-wrinkle treatment

Will it make me look frozen or unnatural?

Not when it's done properly. The look you get depends entirely on dosage, placement and the skill of the person treating you. Our aim with men is a natural, refreshed result where you keep your expressions. Softening lines while leaving movement intact is the whole point.

Does it actually hurt?

Most men are surprised by how little they feel. The needles are very fine and the injections are quick. If you've had an uncomfortable experience elsewhere, tell us, and we'll take extra care to keep you comfortable, just as we did with John.

How many units will I need?

There's no single answer, because it depends on your muscle strength and which areas you're treating. Men often need a slightly higher dose than women in the forehead and frown because those muscles tend to be stronger. Your practitioner will assess this in person and explain the plan before anything happens.

Is it obvious that I've had it done?

It shouldn't be. Colleagues and friends are far more likely to say you look well rested than to guess you've had treatment. A good result is one people notice in a vague, "you look great" way rather than a specific one.

Can I combine it with skincare or other treatments?

Absolutely. Anti-wrinkle injections address movement lines, but a solid skincare routine and treatments that support skin quality can work alongside them. During your consultation we can talk through whether anything else would complement your goals, with no obligation to add anything on.

Ready to look like a fresher version of yourself?

Taking care of how you look isn't vanity, it's a form of looking after yourself, and more men are recognising that every year. If you've been quietly curious about anti-wrinkle treatment, there's genuinely nothing to feel awkward about. You'll be met with the same calm, considered, doctor-led care we give everyone who walks through our doors.

Our team at Wellface would be happy to talk it through with you, honestly and without pressure, at any of our clinics in Cobham, Esher or Wimbledon. Book a consultation whenever you're ready, and we'll help you decide what, if anything, is right for you.
