Autumn Skin Reset: The Wellface Treatments to Book as the Temperature Drops

YT Dr Yasmin Tayeb Published 24 October 2024 · 9 min read

Summer holidays are over, the light has changed and the mornings are cooler. For your skin, that shift matters more than most people realise. Warm months of sun, salt water, air conditioning and late nights tend to leave the complexion looking a little tired, a little dull, and often drier than it feels. Autumn is the moment to put that right.

In a recent reel from the clinic, I opened the treatment cupboard (quite literally) to talk through what I reach for at this time of year. My point was simple. This is the season to rebuild skin quality from within, before the cold and central heating set in, and to start early enough that you are genuinely glowing by Christmas rather than scrambling the week before.

What follows is a proper look at those treatments, how each one works, what a session involves and who tends to benefit most. Almost everything here has one thing in common. Rather than adding obvious volume or freezing movement, these treatments improve the health and structure of the skin itself. That is very much where I see the market heading, and where I love to work.

Why autumn is the smart time to treat your skin

There is a practical reason clinics get busy with skin treatments once the clocks are about to change. Many of the most effective options work by encouraging the skin to repair and regenerate, and that process takes weeks. Collagen does not appear overnight. If you want the results visible for a party season or a New Year that starts well, starting in October or November gives your skin the runway it needs.

Lower sun levels help too. Bright summer sun and freshly treated skin are not natural friends. Reduced UV exposure through the autumn and winter means less risk of pigmentation flaring up after certain treatments, and it makes diligent sun protection far easier to stick to. So the season itself does some of the work for you.

Then there is the way skin behaves once the heating goes on. Indoor warmth and cold outdoor air strip moisture, which is why so many people notice tightness, flaking and a dull, flat look from about November onwards. Treatments that flood the deeper layers with hydration and kickstart repair are a sensible defence against all of that. I frame autumn as preparation rather than rescue, and that is the right way to think about it.

Profhilo: the hydration and bio-remodelling classic

Profhilo remains one of the most requested treatments at Wellface, and for good reason. It is made from a very high concentration of stabilised hyaluronic acid, but it behaves quite differently from a traditional filler. Instead of being placed to create shape or lift, it is injected into a small number of precise points and then spreads through the tissue, hydrating the skin and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin over the following weeks.

The result is not a change in your features. It is a change in the quality of the skin, so it looks firmer, bouncier and more luminous. People often describe the effect as their skin simply looking well rested. It suits the face, and it is also popular for the neck and the backs of the hands, areas that tend to show crepiness and age quickly.

A typical plan is two sessions spaced around four weeks apart, with results building over the following month or two. Maintenance every few months keeps things looking consistent. Appointments are quick, downtime is minimal, and the small raised points from the injections usually settle within a day. It is an easy treatment to fit around a busy diary, which is part of why it has stayed so popular.

Polynucleotides: repair from within, including the eyes and scalp

I was clearly enthusiastic about the range of polynucleotide treatments in the cupboard, and this is one of the areas that has genuinely moved forward in aesthetics. Polynucleotides are purified fragments of DNA, most commonly derived from salmon or trout, that are highly compatible with human tissue. Once injected, they act as a signal to the skin's own repair cells, the fibroblasts, encouraging them to produce fresh collagen. They also have a strong antioxidant and hydrating effect, which is why skin treated this way often looks calmer and more even.

What makes them so versatile is that they can be used almost anywhere. For the whole face they improve overall tone and firmness. On the body they can address crepey or lax areas. And they have become a favourite tool for two concerns that are notoriously difficult to treat well.

Under-eye crepiness and dark circles

The delicate skin around the eyes is thin, mobile and quick to show tiredness. Polynucleotides are particularly suited here because they improve the actual quality of that skin rather than adding volume, which can look heavy in such a fine area. Over a course of treatments many patients notice the fine crepey texture softening and the under-eye area looking fresher and less shadowed. It is a gentle, gradual improvement rather than a dramatic change, which is exactly what this zone needs.

Hair thinning and scalp health

I also mentioned using polynucleotides for the hair, and this is a growing area of interest. Injected into the scalp, they aim to improve the environment around the hair follicles by boosting local circulation and tissue quality, which can support thicker, healthier growth. It tends to work best as part of a course and for people in the earlier stages of thinning rather than established baldness. As with the skin, the principle is the same: help the tissue work better from within.

Most polynucleotide protocols involve a short course of sessions, often two to three, spaced a couple of weeks apart, followed by maintenance. Downtime is generally limited to minor redness or small bumps that settle quickly.

Collagen biostimulators: Radiesse and HArmonyCa

This is the category I described as really having taken off, and I linked it directly to a shift in what patients want. The mood has moved away from big, obvious work towards natural results and what I call healthy maintenance, ageing gracefully rather than trying to look untouched at all costs. Biostimulators sit perfectly in that space because they improve firmness and structure using your own collagen.

Radiesse for the neck and crepey skin

Radiesse is made from calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel. When placed in the skin it provides some immediate support, but its real value is the way it prompts the body to lay down new collagen over the following months. I singled it out for the neck, an area that shows crepiness early and is often neglected. Used here, frequently in a diluted form to spread the collagen-stimulating effect across a wider area, it can noticeably firm and smooth the skin. It is also well suited to the jawline and hands.

HArmonyCa and the 'Ozempic face'

The treatment I called one of my favourites is HArmonyCa (the reel's speech-to-text turned it into "Harmonica"). It is a hybrid injectable that combines calcium hydroxylapatite with hyaluronic acid, so it offers two things at once: an immediate, subtle lift from the hyaluronic acid and longer-term collagen stimulation from the calcium component. That dual action makes it very useful for the lower face and the areas that lose definition with age.

I specifically mentioned the so-called Ozempic face. Rapid weight loss, whether from GLP-1 medications or otherwise, often drains volume from the face and leaves the skin looking deflated and lax. HArmonyCa can help restore some of that lost structure while encouraging the skin to firm up again, which is why it has become such a talking point. As always, the aim is balance and a rested, healthy look rather than an obviously altered one.

Dermal fillers, used with strategy and restraint

Fillers still have their place, and Wellface offers the full range. The difference is in the philosophy. I talk about strategic placement, putting everything in balance rather than chasing volume for its own sake. Small, well judged amounts in the right places can restore harmony to a face that has lost support over time, and when combined with the skin quality treatments above, the overall effect looks more natural than filler alone ever could.

This layered approach, sometimes described as full-face rejuvenation, is where doctor-led practice really shows. It is about reading a face as a whole and choosing the right tool for each area rather than defaulting to one product for everything. That judgement is exactly what a consultation is designed to establish.

Common questions about autumn skin treatments

Which treatment should I start with?

That depends entirely on your skin and your concerns. If dullness and dehydration are your main issue, Profhilo is often a natural starting point. If you are troubled by under-eye crepiness, thinning hair or lax, crepey skin, polynucleotides or a biostimulator may suit you better. The most reliable way to decide is a consultation, where one of our doctors can assess your skin and build a plan around it.

Can I combine several of these treatments?

Yes, and in many cases combining them gives the best result. Skin quality treatments like Profhilo and polynucleotides work well alongside biostimulators and carefully placed filler, because each addresses a different layer of the ageing picture. Your doctor will sequence them sensibly so the skin has time to respond between appointments.

How long until I see results?

Most of these treatments work gradually. Hydration-based improvements can be visible within a couple of weeks, while the collagen-building effect of biostimulators and polynucleotides continues to develop over one to three months. This is precisely why starting in autumn makes sense if you want to look your best over the festive season.

Is there much downtime?

Generally very little. Redness, minor swelling or small injection bumps are common but usually settle within a day or two. Most people carry on with their day as normal. Your practitioner will give you tailored aftercare, which typically includes gentle skincare and good sun protection.

Are these treatments suitable for prevention as well as correction?

Absolutely. Many patients in their thirties use skin quality treatments as maintenance to keep collagen levels healthy and slow visible ageing, rather than waiting for concerns to become established. Prevention is often easier and more subtle than correction later on.
