The Best Non-Surgical Treatments for Busy Mums, According to Dr Yasmin Tayeb

YT Dr Yasmin Tayeb Published 27 November 2025 · 9 min read

If you're a mum, you already know the maths never quite adds up. There are school runs, packed lunches, work, the washing that reproduces overnight, and somewhere at the very bottom of the list sits you. As the founder of Wellface, I'll say it plainly: I'm in the same boat. Getting into clinic for my own treatments is genuinely hard, and the thing I find trickiest of all is committing to a course that needs weeks of careful scheduling.

So I took a practical view. If you only have small pockets of time and no appetite for a week of hiding indoors, which treatments actually earn their place? Not the ones that promise the moon and demand a fortnight of downtime, but the ones that deliver real, visible results and let you collect the children the same afternoon.

My answer comes down to three. Something to soften the frown that comes from a decade of telling small people to put their shoes on. Something to pour hydration and glow back into skin that's running on empty. And something working quietly in the background to protect the structure of your face for the years ahead. Here's what each one does, and why they suit a life that doesn't slow down.

Why busy mums need a different approach

The skin of a woman in the thick of family life tells a fairly consistent story. There's tiredness, often the kind that no amount of concealer fully covers. There's dehydration, because water tends to lose out to whatever's quickest during a chaotic day. There's the natural change that happens through your thirties and forties, when the fat pads that once gave the face its soft fullness begin to shrink and shift, and collagen production slows.

None of that calls for anything dramatic. What it calls for is a handful of well-chosen treatments that respect your time. My rule of thumb is simple. If a result requires you to be out of action for days, it's the wrong fit for a mum who's back on duty by three o'clock. The good news is that the most effective anti-ageing and skin-quality treatments available today happen to be some of the quickest. A short appointment, minimal fuss, and you look like a fresher version of yourself rather than a different person.

That last point matters to me. The goal isn't to look done. It's to look like you've had eight hours of sleep and a fortnight in the sun, which for most mums is pure fantasy.

Anti-wrinkle injections to soften the frown

My first choice is anti-wrinkle treatment, and specifically for the frown lines between the brows. As I see it, mums do a lot of frowning. You frown when you're telling someone off, when you're concentrating, when you're mildly horrified by the state of the kitchen. Over years, that repeated movement etches vertical lines into the skin, and those lines can read as cross or exhausted even when you feel neither.

How it works

Anti-wrinkle injections use tiny amounts of a purified protein to gently relax the specific muscles that create expression lines. When those muscles ease off, the skin above them stops creasing so sharply, and existing lines soften over the following days. The frown area is the classic starting point, though the same approach treats forehead lines and the crow's feet around the eyes.

The appointment itself is quick, usually well under half an hour, with a series of small injections that most people describe as a brief scratch. There's no real recovery. You might notice a few tiny raised bumps that settle within twenty minutes, and occasionally a small bruise, but you can walk straight back out and carry on with your day.

What to expect afterwards

Results aren't instant. They begin to appear from around day three and reach their full effect at roughly two weeks, which is worth knowing if you're timing it around an event. The finish, when it's done well, is not frozen. I favour a softened, relaxed look where you keep your natural expressions but lose the permanent scowl. Results typically last three to four months before a top-up is needed.

A quick word on aftercare, because it's easy to fit around family life. Stay upright for a few hours, skip the gym and hot environments like saunas that day, and avoid rubbing the treated area. That's more or less it.

Profhilo for deep hydration and glow

Second on the list is hydration, and here I reach for Profhilo or a skin booster. My reasoning is honest and relatable. Mums are depleted. You're probably not drinking enough water and not eating as well as you'd like, because you're too busy feeding everyone else. That shows up in the skin as dullness, a lack of bounce and a tired, flat appearance.

What makes Profhilo different

Profhilo is often mistaken for a filler, but it works in a different way. It's made from a very high concentration of hyaluronic acid, the sugar molecule your skin uses to hold on to water, delivered in a form that spreads across a wider area rather than sitting in one spot. Rather than adding volume to a specific feature, it floods the skin with moisture and, over the weeks that follow, stimulates your own collagen and elastin. The result is skin that looks hydrated, plumper and lit from within, with a noticeable improvement in that overall glow.

A treatment involves a small number of precise injection points, typically five on each side of the face, placed where the product can disperse most effectively. It takes only minutes. There may be small bumps at the injection sites that flatten within a day, so many people book it when they've got a quiet evening ahead, though you can absolutely go back to normal life straight away.

The scheduling question

Profhilo is usually recommended as two sessions, spaced about four weeks apart, with results maintained roughly every six months. I'm candid that this is the sort of scheduling mums find hardest, but two appointments a month apart is far more manageable than a long weekly course, and the payoff is skin quality that keeps building. If even that feels like a stretch, a single skin booster session still gives a lift, and our team can talk you through the version that fits your calendar. Both work on the same principle of putting hydration back where it belongs and masking that constant undertone of tiredness.

Collagen bio-stimulators like HArmonyCa

My third pick, and the one I call my favourite treatment of recent years, is the collagen bio-stimulator. This is the treatment doing the long game, and it speaks directly to what happens to the face over time.

Why collagen matters as fat pads change

Through your late thirties and forties, the deep fat pads that give a youthful face its soft, supported look gradually reduce and descend. At the same time, your natural collagen production tails off. The combined effect is a slow loss of firmness, a slight flattening of the cheeks and a softening of the jawline. Bio-stimulators tackle the underlying cause rather than simply covering it up.

Products such as HArmonyCa work by prompting your skin to make more of its own collagen over the weeks and months after treatment. HArmonyCa is a hybrid in particular, combining a hyaluronic acid component that gives a subtle, immediate lift with calcium-based microspheres that kick-start collagen production for a firmer, more supported result that develops gradually. So you leave with a little something to see, and the real benefit continues building quietly in the background.

Subtle now, protective later

What I love about this category is how understated and durable it is. The change is gradual and natural, so nobody can quite put their finger on what you've had done. It's long lasting, and it's genuinely anti-ageing in the sense that it invests in the structure of your face for the future rather than offering a quick fix. For a mum who wants a powerful result without a dramatic overhaul, it fits perfectly. You're helping your skin look after itself for years to come.

As with the others, downtime is limited. Some mild swelling or bruising can occur and settles within a few days, and your practitioner will discuss the finer points at your consultation, since the right approach depends on your face and your goals.

Common questions about treatments for busy mums

Can I have all three treatments together?

Often, yes, though it's usually sensible to stage them thoughtfully. Anti-wrinkle injections, Profhilo and a bio-stimulator do different jobs and can complement each other beautifully. At your consultation, one of our doctors will map out an order and timing that suits both your face and your very limited free time, so you're not making endless separate trips.

Will people be able to tell I've had something done?

That's precisely the brief I work to. The aim across all three is a refreshed, well-rested version of you rather than an obviously treated look. Done with a light hand, the frown softens, the skin glows and the face looks a touch firmer, and most people will simply assume you're having a good spell.

How much downtime should I really plan for?

Very little. Anti-wrinkle injections and Profhilo let most people return to normal life immediately, with only tiny, short-lived bumps at injection sites. Bio-stimulators can bring a day or two of mild swelling or the odd bruise. If you've an important event, I'd suggest leaving a couple of weeks either side to be safe, but there's no lengthy recovery to schedule around.

I can barely commit to one appointment, let alone a course. What's the most efficient option?

If time is the biggest barrier, anti-wrinkle injections give a quick, visible result from a single short visit. Profhilo works best as two sessions but still improves your skin from the first. A bio-stimulator offers the longest-lasting return on a single appointment. Tell us your constraints honestly and we'll build something realistic around them.

Are these treatments safe?

All three are well-established and, in experienced medical hands, have strong safety records. At Wellface every treatment is carried out by a doctor who assesses your health, your skin and your goals first. That medical oversight is exactly why results tend to look natural and why complications are rare.
