Why Morpheus8 Is Janine's Treatment of Choice at Wellface

WF The Wellface Team Published 17 June 2025 · 8 min read

If you've visited our Cobham clinic, there's a good chance the first face you saw was Janine's. She looks after front of house at Wellface, which means she's the one who welcomes you in, settles you with a drink and makes sure the fuss and formality of a medical appointment melts away before your consultation even starts. She knows most of our regulars by name, and she genuinely enjoys the day to day of it: seeing familiar faces, hearing how people are getting on, being part of a team that's growing.

So when Janine tells us a treatment is worth having, we listen, because she sees the results walk back through the door week after week. Her personal favourite? Morpheus8. She's had it done more than once, and by her own admission, any time there's a chance to have it again, she takes it.

That kind of loyalty from someone who works surrounded by every treatment on our menu tells you something. Below we've unpacked what Morpheus8 actually is, why it earns such a devoted following, and what a course looks like from start to finish.

What Morpheus8 actually does

Morpheus8 is a radiofrequency microneedling treatment. That's a bit of a mouthful, so it helps to break it into its two working parts.

The microneedling side uses an array of very fine needles to create tiny, controlled channels in the skin. On its own, that micro-injury is enough to trigger the body's natural repair response, prompting fresh collagen and elastin to form. It's the same principle behind traditional microneedling, which has been improving skin texture for years.

What makes Morpheus8 different is the radiofrequency energy delivered through those needles once they reach the deeper layers of the skin. That heat is where the tightening happens. It gently contracts existing collagen and stimulates the production of new collagen at a depth that surface treatments simply can't reach. Because the needles carry the energy down into the dermis and the layer just beneath it, you get remodelling from within rather than just polishing on top.

The result over time is skin that looks firmer, smoother and more even. People come to it for softening fine lines, refining enlarged pores, improving crepey texture and lifting areas that have started to lose their definition, particularly along the jaw and lower face. It's also used off the face, on the neck, tummy and knees, where skin laxity tends to bother people most.

Why Janine keeps going back

Ask Janine what she likes about Morpheus8 and it comes down to the glow and the tightening. She's not describing a dramatic, overnight transformation, because that isn't how good skin treatments work. What she's describing is the gradual return of firmness and a fresh, healthy quality to the skin that other people notice without quite being able to put their finger on why.

That's the appeal of a collagen-building treatment. Rather than filling or freezing, it works with your own biology, so the improvement looks like your skin on a very good day rather than like you've had something done. For someone who spends her days meeting our clients face to face, that natural finish matters.

There's also the versatility. Because the depth and intensity can be tailored, the same device can be dialled up for firmer body areas or kept gentler for delicate skin around the eyes and neck. Two people can have Morpheus8 for very different reasons and both leave happy.

What a Morpheus8 session involves

We always start with a consultation. One of our doctors will look at your skin, talk through what's bothering you and confirm whether Morpheus8 is the right tool for the job. If it is, the treatment itself is straightforward.

Preparing and numbing

Once your skin is cleansed, we apply a topical numbing cream and leave it to take full effect. This is the part that makes the treatment comfortable, so it's worth the wait. Most people find that with proper numbing the sensation is very manageable, more of a warm pressure than anything sharp.

The treatment itself

The handpiece is moved methodically across the treatment area, delivering the needles and radiofrequency energy in a series of small passes. A facial treatment often takes somewhere in the region of thirty to sixty minutes once numbing is done, depending on how many areas you're having and how large they are. You'll feel warmth and a faint prickling, but the numbing keeps it comfortable throughout.

Straight afterwards

When it's finished, your skin will look flushed, a little like mild sunburn, and may feel warm and tight. Some people have a grid-like pattern of tiny marks that fades over the following day or two. We'll apply a soothing product and talk you through exactly how to look after your skin at home.

Downtime and aftercare

One of the reasons Morpheus8 has become so popular is that the downtime is modest for the depth of results it delivers. The redness is usually the most noticeable thing, and for most people it settles considerably within one to three days. Some minor swelling, dryness or a slightly rough, sandpaper texture as the skin renews is normal and short-lived.

For the first day, it's best to leave the skin alone as much as possible. Keep it clean with gentle products, avoid make-up for the period your practitioner advises, and hold off on active ingredients like retinoids, acids and vitamin C for a few days while the skin barrier recovers. Heat is the other thing to sidestep early on, so no hot workouts, saunas or steam rooms for the first 24 to 48 hours.

Sun protection is non-negotiable afterwards. Freshly treated skin is more vulnerable to UV, so a high-factor SPF every morning protects your results and keeps pigmentation at bay. Keeping the skin well hydrated with a simple moisturiser helps it settle comfortably too. Most people are perfectly fine to go about their normal routine the next day, which is exactly why it fits so neatly around work and family life.

Results and how many sessions you need

Morpheus8 is a slow burn in the best sense. You may notice an immediate freshness once the initial redness fades, but the real work is happening beneath the surface as your skin lays down new collagen over the following weeks and months.

Most people are advised to have a short course rather than a single treatment. A typical plan is around three sessions spaced roughly four to six weeks apart, though your doctor will tailor this to your skin and your goals. That spacing gives the skin time to heal and rebuild between appointments. Improvements tend to keep developing for up to three months or so after your final session, and many people top up with a maintenance treatment once or twice a year to keep things ticking along.

As with any collagen-stimulating treatment, results and their longevity vary from person to person depending on age, skin condition and lifestyle. This is something we'll be honest with you about at consultation rather than promising a one-size-fits-all outcome.

Common questions about Morpheus8

Does Morpheus8 hurt?

With a proper application of numbing cream beforehand, most people find it comfortable. You'll be aware of warmth and a light prickling sensation, and firmer or bonier areas can feel a little more intense, but it's generally well tolerated. If you're anxious about discomfort, tell us and we'll make sure you're properly numbed and reassured before we begin.

Who is a good candidate?

Morpheus8 suits a wide range of skin types and tones, which is one of its strengths. It's a popular choice for people who want firmer, smoother skin and improved texture without surgery. It isn't suitable during pregnancy, if you have certain active skin infections in the area, or with some medical conditions, so a consultation with one of our doctors is essential to confirm it's right for you.

How is it different from ordinary microneedling?

Standard microneedling works largely on the surface layers of the skin to refine texture and tone. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency heat delivered deep into the skin through the needles, so alongside the texture benefits you get genuine tightening and remodelling at a level that needles alone can't achieve. That deeper action is why it's chosen for laxity as well as skin quality.

Can I have it on my neck or body?

Yes. While the face and jawline are common areas, Morpheus8 is regularly used on the neck, under the chin, the tummy, arms and knees, wherever skin has started to feel loose or crepey. The settings are adjusted to suit the thickness of skin in each area.

When will I see results?

Expect an early freshness once redness settles, with the more meaningful firming and smoothing building gradually over the weeks that follow as new collagen forms. Results generally continue to improve for around three months after a course is complete.
