Morpheus8 Comes to Wellface Cobham: Smoother, Firmer, Brighter Skin
We are delighted to bring Morpheus8 to our Cobham clinic, for both the face and the body. It's one of the most talked about treatments in aesthetics, and for good reason. When patients ask me how celebrities seem to keep the same fresh, healthy skin year after year, this is often part of the answer. Andy Murray's mother, Judy, has spoken openly about the difference good skin treatments have made to her, and Eva Longoria is frequently cited as someone who looks much the same now as she did a decade ago. That kind of maintenance rarely happens by accident.
Morpheus8 works on the deeper structure of your skin, not just the surface. It combines two well-established technologies, microneedling and radiofrequency, into a single device that stimulates your own collagen and remodels tired, lax skin from within. The result tends to be gradual and natural: better texture, softer lines, tighter contours and that lit-from-inside glow that's hard to fake with makeup.
If you've been reading about it and wondering whether it might suit you, this guide explains how the treatment actually works, what a session involves, the downtime to expect, and how it compares to other things we offer at Wellface.
What Morpheus8 actually is
Morpheus8 is what's known as a radiofrequency microneedling device. During treatment, an array of very fine gold-tipped needles passes into the skin to a precisely set depth, and as they do, they deliver radiofrequency heat energy into the deeper layers of tissue. So you get two things happening at once.
The microneedling creates tiny controlled channels in the skin. Your body reads these as small injuries that need repairing, which triggers a natural wound-healing response. The radiofrequency energy then heats the deeper dermis to a temperature that both tightens the collagen already there and prompts fibroblasts, the cells responsible for making collagen and elastin, to lay down fresh, organised new fibres. Traditional microneedling can only reach so far. Morpheus8 penetrates considerably deeper, which is why it tends to produce more noticeable firming and smoothing than needling alone.
One of the reasons I was keen to bring it to Cobham is how adjustable it is. The needle depth and energy levels can be dialled up or down depending on the area being treated and what your skin needs. Delicate skin near the eyes is treated very differently from a jawline or an abdomen. That flexibility is also why it can be used safely across a wide range of skin tones, because the energy is delivered into the deeper layers rather than sitting on the surface where pigment issues are more likely.
The concerns it helps with
The reason Morpheus8 has become so popular is that it addresses several concerns at the same time, rather than doing one job in isolation.
Skin texture and pores tend to be among the first things people notice improving. As new collagen builds beneath the surface, rough, uneven skin starts to feel smoother and pores look refined. Fine lines and wrinkles soften as the deeper support structure of the skin is rebuilt, so the skin sits more firmly and creases less. There's a tightening effect too, which is why it's often described as a non-surgical option for early laxity along the jaw and neck.
Then there's the glow. Dull, tired-looking skin often reflects a slowdown in cell turnover and collagen production. By kickstarting that process, Morpheus8 brings back a healthier, brighter quality to the complexion. And because it works with your own biology rather than adding volume from outside, the improvement looks like a better version of your own skin, not a different face.
It also has a role in scarring, particularly acne scarring and some stretch marks, where the remodelling of the deeper tissue can genuinely change the depth and texture of the skin over a course of treatments. On the body, it can firm and smooth areas like the abdomen, arms and thighs.
Why starting early matters
There's a theme that comes up again and again with patients who age well, and it's maintenance. The people who seem to keep their skin looking fresh year after year usually aren't doing anything dramatic. They're topping up gently and consistently, and they started before things had gone too far.
Collagen production begins to slow from our mid-twenties onward, and it keeps declining as the years pass. That's the protein that keeps skin firm, plump and springy, so as it falls away we start to see lines, laxity and a loss of that youthful bounce. The logic behind treatments like Morpheus8 is to bank good quality collagen while your skin is still responsive, keeping the reserves topped up rather than waiting until there's a lot of ground to make up.
That's the difference between the two kinds of results people see. Someone who comes in later with more established lines and laxity can still see a real change, sometimes a striking one. But someone who starts younger and keeps ticking things over tends to simply hold their looks steady, which is arguably the more enviable outcome. It's the quiet, consistent approach that pays off, and it's something I talk through with every patient rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all plan.
What a Morpheus8 session at Wellface involves
Every treatment at Wellface begins with a proper consultation. I'll look at your skin, ask about your concerns and your medical history, and only then recommend whether Morpheus8 is right for you and how many sessions you're likely to need. I would never sell you a course you don't need.
On the day, we start by cleansing the skin thoroughly, then applying a topical numbing cream and leaving it to take effect for around half an hour. This makes the treatment very comfortable. Most people describe the sensation as heat and a bit of pressure rather than anything sharp. The device is then passed methodically across the treatment area, and I adjust the settings as I go to match the depth and energy to each part of the face or body.
A typical facial treatment takes somewhere in the region of thirty to sixty minutes once the numbing is done, though this varies with the area and how much ground is being covered. Straight afterwards your skin will feel warm and look flushed, rather like mild sunburn, and it may feel a little tight. This is completely normal and part of the process.
How many sessions you'll need
For most people, the sweet spot is a course of three to four sessions spaced roughly four to six weeks apart. That spacing isn't arbitrary. It gives your skin time to heal and to get collagen production properly underway between appointments, so each session builds on the last.
If your concerns are on the milder side, say some enlarged pores or early fine lines, you may be very happy after one or two sessions. Deeper wrinkles, more significant laxity or established scarring generally need the full course to see a marked difference. I'll give you an honest assessment at consultation rather than a stock answer.
Downtime, aftercare and results
The downtime with Morpheus8 is one of its real advantages. The redness and warmth are usually the most visible part, and for most people that settles within one to three days. You might notice some mild swelling, a bit of dryness, or tiny pinpoint marks where the needles passed, all of which fade quickly. Many patients feel comfortable applying a little mineral makeup or tinted moisturiser after a day or two, and by the end of the second week the skin generally looks and feels entirely normal.
Good aftercare protects your investment. In the days immediately after treatment, keep the skin clean using a gentle, non-irritating cleanser and lukewarm water, and keep it well moisturised. Avoid picking at any flaking as the skin renews itself. Skip heavy exercise, saunas and anything that makes you sweat heavily for a couple of days, and give alcohol a miss for a short while, as it can slow healing. Daily SPF is non-negotiable, because freshly treated skin is more sensitive to the sun and UV exposure undermines the very collagen you're trying to build. I usually advise pausing active ingredients such as retinoids and acids for a week or so, then reintroducing them once the skin has settled.
As for results, expect a slow reveal rather than an instant transformation. There's often an early glow and a subtle tightening within the first week as the existing collagen contracts. The more meaningful changes build over the following months as new collagen matures, with the full effect typically visible around three to six months after your course. Those results tend to last well, commonly in the region of twelve to eighteen months, after which a maintenance session once or twice a year keeps things ticking over. Sensible skincare, sun protection and a healthy lifestyle all help the results last longer.
Common questions about Morpheus8
Does Morpheus8 hurt?
With numbing cream applied beforehand, most patients find it very manageable. You'll feel warmth and some pressure as the device works, and certain bonier areas can feel a little more intense, but it's well tolerated by the vast majority of people. Any tenderness afterwards is usually mild and short-lived.
How is it different from ordinary microneedling?
Standard microneedling relies purely on creating tiny channels in the skin to stimulate repair. Morpheus8 adds radiofrequency heat and reaches much deeper into the skin, which means it can tighten and remodel the deeper layers rather than just refreshing the surface. That's why it tends to give more noticeable firming, contouring and improvement in laxity.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes, and it often is, as part of a considered plan. Many patients pair it with treatments like anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, Profhilo or medical-grade skincare to address different concerns together. Timing matters, so I'll usually space Morpheus8 a couple of weeks apart from injectables to let everything settle. I'll map out a sensible order at your consultation.
Who isn't suitable for Morpheus8?
It suits most skin types and tones, but it isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and there are some skin conditions and medical situations where I'd advise against it or delay treatment. If you're prone to cold sores, let me know so I can arrange preventative medication beforehand. This is exactly what the consultation is for.
When will I see results?
You may notice an early glow and slight tightening within the first week, but the real changes build gradually. Most people see the fuller effect develop over three to six months as new collagen forms, with improvement continuing well after the final session.
