Profhilo Body: The Injectable That Treats Crepey, Sagging Skin Below the Neck

WF The Wellface Team Published 6 October 2023 · 8 min read

Most of the attention in aesthetics goes to the face. It makes sense, because it's the part of us we see in the mirror every morning. But skin doesn't stop at the jawline, and the areas we tend to cover up (the upper arms, the abdomen, the knees, the décolletage) age in their own particular way. They lose firmness. They start to look a little crepey. The skin thins and dries and no amount of body lotion seems to touch it.

That's the gap Profhilo Body was designed to fill. It's a body-specific version of one of the most talked-about injectable treatments of the last decade, and it works on the deeper problem rather than just the surface. At Wellface, our doctors use it for patients who are frustrated with loose, papery skin on the body and want something that actually improves the quality of the skin itself, not just how it feels for an hour after moisturising.

This post walks through what Profhilo Body is, how it differs from the version used on the face, which areas respond best, what a session involves and what you can realistically expect. If you've been eyeing sleeveless dresses or a lower neckline with a bit of hesitation, this is worth reading.

What Profhilo Body actually is

Profhilo is a stabilised form of hyaluronic acid, the same sugar molecule your skin makes naturally to hold water and keep tissue plump. What makes it different from an ordinary skin booster is the concentration and the way it behaves once it's under the skin.

It's one of the most concentrated hyaluronic acid products available, combining high and low molecular weight HA in a single formulation. Rather than sitting where it's placed like a dermal filler, it spreads out through the tissue and gradually releases. This does two jobs at once. First, it floods the area with hydration from within, which is why the skin looks dewier and less parched within a couple of weeks. Second, and more importantly for laxity, it stimulates your own fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen and elastin. That's the part that firms and tightens over the following weeks.

This is the distinction people often miss. Profhilo isn't a filler and it isn't designed to add volume or reshape anything. The word the manufacturer uses is bio-remodelling, and it's a fair description. You're prompting the skin to rebuild its own support structure rather than propping it up with product.

How Profhilo Body differs from the face version

The face and the body are not the same canvas. Body skin covers a much larger surface, it's thicker in some places and thinner in others, and the areas that sag tend to be broad rather than pinpoint. Profhilo Body is formulated and mapped specifically for these larger zones.

The technique is different too. On the face, practitioners use a small number of set injection points known as BAP points. On the body, a comparable structured mapping is used, typically around ten points per area, chosen so the product diffuses evenly across the treatment zone. The volume and the concentration are matched to the demands of body skin, which is why a dedicated body product exists rather than simply using more of the facial one.

The concerns it's best at addressing

Two things bring most people to Profhilo Body: dryness and laxity. Often they arrive together, because thin, dehydrated skin is also the skin most likely to crepe and sag.

Crepey skin is that fine, wrinkled, tissue-paper texture that shows up most on the inner upper arms, the knees and the décolletage. It's largely a story of collagen loss and chronic dehydration, sometimes accelerated by years of sun exposure. Because Profhilo works on both fronts at once, it tends to suit this presentation particularly well.

Skin laxity is the looser, softer quality that follows ageing, significant weight change or pregnancy. Profhilo Body won't remove large amounts of excess skin (that's a surgical question), but for mild to moderate looseness it can meaningfully improve firmness and elasticity, making the skin feel tighter and look smoother.

Areas that respond well

The abdomen is a common request, especially after weight loss or pregnancy where the skin has stretched and lost its snap. The upper arms are another, particularly the crepey inner arm that shows in short sleeves. The décolletage, that V of chest skin that catches the sun and creases with sleep, responds nicely because it's an area where quality matters more than volume. Knees, hands and thighs are all treatable too. As our practitioner puts it in the reel, it's for anywhere on the body that could use a little hydration and an improvement in skin quality and crepiness.

What a treatment session involves

A course of Profhilo Body is usually two sessions spaced about four weeks apart. There's a reason for the pairing. The first session kick-starts hydration and begins the collagen and elastin response, and the second, timed while that biological process is still active, consolidates and extends the result. Some patients with more significant laxity may be advised to have a third session.

The appointment itself is quick. After a consultation to map the area and check you're a suitable candidate, the practitioner places the small series of injections across the zone. Because there are relatively few injection points and the product is designed to spread, treatment time is short and most people find the discomfort very manageable. A little stinging as the product goes in is normal.

You'll typically see small raised bumps at each injection site immediately afterwards. These are simply the product sitting in the skin before it disperses, and they usually settle within a few hours to a day. Mild redness, tenderness or the odd bruise can happen, as with any injectable, but there's no meaningful downtime. Most people carry on with their day.

Aftercare that helps your result

Aftercare is refreshingly simple. Avoid heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms and very hot baths for the first day or so, since heat and vigorous activity can aggravate swelling. Keep the area clean and try not to massage or press on the injection points while the product disperses. Steer clear of direct sun on the treated skin for a few days, and use an SPF once things have settled.

Supporting the skin from the outside pays off. This is why the treatment package featured in our reel paired Profhilo Body with a body lotion for maximum hydration and a hyaluronic acid mask over the area. Consistent moisturising and good sun protection help maintain the hydration and quality you've invested in.

Results and how long they last

Profhilo works gradually, and that's the honest expectation to set. You'll notice the hydration first, often within the first couple of weeks, as the skin looks fresher and feels softer. The firming and tightening take longer because collagen and elastin remodelling is a slow biological process. The fuller effect tends to appear over roughly eight weeks, building after the second session.

Results generally last in the region of six months, though this varies with your skin, your age and how well you look after the area. Many patients choose a maintenance session once or twice a year to keep the improvement topped up. It's worth thinking of Profhilo Body as ongoing skin care in injectable form rather than a one-off fix.

Realistic expectations matter here. For someone with fine crepiness and dehydration, the change can be striking. For pronounced sagging or a large amount of loose skin, Profhilo will improve quality and firmness but won't replace what surgery or energy-based skin tightening might achieve. During your consultation, one of our doctors will tell you honestly whether Profhilo Body is the right tool for your particular concern, or whether something like Morpheus8 or another approach would serve you better.

Common questions about Profhilo Body

Is Profhilo Body the same as a dermal filler?

No. Fillers are placed to add volume and structure in a specific spot and hold their shape. Profhilo is a bio-remodelling treatment that spreads through the tissue, hydrating it and stimulating your own collagen and elastin. It improves skin quality and firmness rather than adding volume or changing contours.

Does it hurt?

Most people tolerate it well. There are only a small number of injection points per area, and while you'll feel a brief sting as the product is placed, it's generally described as mild. Any tenderness afterwards is short-lived.

How many sessions will I need?

The standard protocol is two sessions about four weeks apart. Depending on the area and the degree of laxity, your practitioner may recommend a third for the best outcome. After that, a maintenance session every six to twelve months helps preserve the result.

When will I see a difference?

Hydration improvements often show within the first two weeks. The firming and smoothing effect develops more slowly, becoming clearer around the eight-week mark once the second session has had time to work.

Who isn't suitable for Profhilo Body?

It isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have an active infection or inflammation in the area to be treated. As with any injectable, a proper consultation is essential so we can review your medical history and make sure it's appropriate for you.
