Secret Pro with PRP: RF Microneedling for Skin That Heals Faster and Glows

WF The Wellface Team Published 21 May 2024 · 10 min read

Some patients want brilliant skin results but can't afford to walk around red and flushed for a week. That was the brief for a recent visit to one of our clinics: a busy woman with a full diary, no tolerance for lingering downtime, and a wish list that included firmer, smoother, more radiant skin. The answer was Secret Pro radiofrequency microneedling paired with PRP, and it's a combination we reach for often when the goal is real collagen change with the gentlest possible recovery.

Secret Pro is a doctor-favourite platform because it does two things well. It delivers radiofrequency microneedling to remodel the deeper layers of the skin, and, on the same device, it can perform fractional CO2 laser resurfacing when a patient needs more surface renewal. In this article we're focusing on the RF microneedling side, which is what the reel was about, and on why adding platelet-rich plasma makes the whole experience calmer and the results more reliable.

If you've been curious about tightening and rejuvenation but have held back because of the redness and time off, this is the treatment worth understanding properly. Here's how it works, what a session feels like, and what you can genuinely expect in the days and months that follow.

What Secret Pro RF microneedling actually does

Radiofrequency microneedling combines two collagen-building mechanisms in one pass. Very fine needles create tiny controlled channels in the skin, and as they reach the target depth they release radiofrequency energy from their tips. That energy heats the deeper dermis in a precise, contained way.

The needling alone triggers the skin's natural wound-healing response, which switches on fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. The radiofrequency heat adds a second signal. Controlled thermal energy in the dermis causes existing collagen fibres to contract and prompts the body to lay down fresh collagen over the following weeks. Together, the mechanical and thermal stimulation produce more remodelling than either would achieve on its own.

The practical benefit of the Secret Pro handpiece is precision. The depth of the needles can be adjusted, so a doctor can treat the thin skin around the eyes differently from the thicker skin of the jaw or cheeks. Energy is delivered where it's needed and largely spared from the surface, which is part of why recovery tends to be shorter than with fully ablative laser resurfacing.

The concerns it helps with

Secret Pro RF microneedling is a genuine all-rounder for skin quality. It's used to soften fine lines and early wrinkles, refine enlarged pores and rough texture, improve mild skin laxity along the cheeks and jawline, and smooth the appearance of acne scarring and other textural irregularities. Because it works in the dermis rather than only on the surface, it's suited to skin that needs firming and rebuilding, not just brightening.

It also tends to be a sensible choice for a broader range of skin tones than some light-based treatments, because the collagen response is driven by the needles and radiofrequency rather than by targeting pigment. Your doctor will always confirm suitability at consultation, but this is one of the reasons RF microneedling has become such a workhorse in medical aesthetics.

Why we add PRP to the treatment

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a small sample of your own blood. We spin it in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets and the plasma that surrounds them. Platelets are packed with growth factors and signalling proteins, the biological messengers your body uses to heal wounds and regenerate tissue. Concentrating them and applying them to freshly microneedled skin is a way of giving the healing response a head start.

There are two reasons we like PRP alongside Secret Pro. The first is recovery. Those growth factors support the skin's repair process, which can help calm inflammation and shorten how long redness hangs around. For a patient who genuinely cannot spare a week of visible flushing, that matters. The second is the result itself. PRP feeds the same collagen-building pathway that the microneedling has just opened up, so the two work in the same direction. The channels created by the needles also help the PRP reach deeper than a topical serum ever could.

Because PRP comes from your own body, there's no risk of an allergic reaction to a foreign product. It's the same regenerative material your skin already uses to heal, simply concentrated and delivered where it's most useful.

How PRP is prepared on the day

The process is straightforward and adds only a little time to the appointment. A small amount of blood is drawn, much like a routine blood test. That sample goes into the centrifuge, which spins at high speed to separate the golden plasma and platelets from the red blood cells. Your doctor then draws off the platelet-rich portion, ready to apply during and immediately after the microneedling. Everything used is your own, prepared fresh in the room.

What a Secret Pro with PRP session involves

Your appointment starts with a proper consultation and a look at your skin, so the doctor can set needle depths and energy levels to your face and your goals. Numbing cream is applied and left to work for around half an hour, which keeps the treatment comfortable. While that's taking effect, your blood is drawn and spun so the PRP is ready when you are.

The microneedling itself is methodical rather than lengthy. The handpiece is moved across the treatment areas in sections, delivering the needles and radiofrequency at the chosen depth. Most people describe a warm, prickling sensation rather than sharp pain, thanks to the numbing. As the doctor works, and again at the end, PRP is applied to the skin so it can absorb through the fresh channels.

The face portion typically takes around thirty to forty-five minutes once you're numb, with the whole visit, including preparation, sitting comfortably within a couple of hours. You'll leave with clear aftercare guidance and, in many cases, looking far less dramatic than people expect.

Downtime: what redness really looks like

This is where the PRP earns its place. Straight after treatment, the skin looks flushed and feels warm, similar to mild sunburn, and there may be a little swelling. That's the expected reaction and a sign the collagen response has been triggered.

With PRP supporting recovery, that redness tends to settle quickly. In the reel, the doctor explained that she expected most of the redness to fade by the end of the same evening, with perhaps around five per cent lingering the next day in the areas treated most thoroughly. That fits with what we see in clinic. Many patients are comfortable with light makeup and back to normal life within a day or two, rather than the longer stretch that fully ablative laser resurfacing can require.

Recovery does vary. Deeper, higher-energy settings do more remodelling but ask a little more of the skin, so someone treating significant laxity or scarring may have a day or two more of flushing than someone having a lighter refresh. Your doctor will be honest at consultation about where your treatment sits on that scale, especially if you have an event coming up.

Aftercare that protects your results

Good aftercare is simple but it matters. For the first several hours, leave the skin alone so the PRP can absorb fully and the tiny channels can close. Keep to a gentle cleanser and a bland moisturiser for the first few days, and pause active ingredients such as retinoids, vitamin C and exfoliating acids for around a week while the skin repairs.

Sun protection is not optional. Freshly treated skin is vulnerable, so daily broad-spectrum SPF and sensible sun avoidance protect both your comfort and the collagen you've just invested in. Avoid heavy exercise, saunas and very hot showers for a couple of days, skip mechanical scrubs and exfoliating tools for a week to ten days, and let any light flaking shed on its own rather than picking at it. If anything feels unusual, such as increasing pain or signs of infection, contact the clinic.

The results timeline

RF microneedling rewards patience, because the best changes come from collagen your body builds over time rather than an instant surface effect. In the first week you'll often notice a fresher, more hydrated look as the initial reaction settles, helped along by the PRP.

The more meaningful improvements in texture and glow tend to show around two to three weeks in. Collagen production then ramps up over the following four to six weeks, which is when firmness and smoothness become more obvious. And it doesn't stop there. Collagen remodelling continues quietly for months, so skin can keep improving across the three, six and nine month marks after a treatment, as the doctor described in the reel.

For most concerns we recommend a short course of sessions spaced roughly four to six weeks apart rather than relying on a single treatment, then a plan to maintain the results over the year. The exact number depends on your skin and your goals, which is something to map out together at consultation.

Common questions about Secret Pro with PRP

Is the treatment painful?

Most people find it very manageable. A numbing cream is applied beforehand, so the main sensation during treatment is warmth and a light prickling rather than sharp pain. Afterwards the skin feels tight and warm, like mild sunburn, and that eases over the first day or two.

How is Secret Pro different from ordinary microneedling?

Standard microneedling relies on the needles alone to stimulate collagen. Secret Pro adds radiofrequency energy delivered into the deeper skin through the needle tips, which heats the dermis and drives stronger tightening and collagen remodelling. That extra thermal effect is why RF microneedling is often chosen for laxity and deeper texture concerns, not just surface refinement.

Do I need PRP, or can I have the microneedling on its own?

RF microneedling works well without PRP, but adding your own platelet-rich plasma tends to calm the skin faster and feed the same collagen pathway the treatment activates. If reducing downtime and giving healing an extra push matters to you, PRP is a worthwhile addition. Your doctor will advise what suits your skin and your timescale.

How many sessions will I need?

Many people benefit from a course of around three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with results assessed and maintained over the following months. Skin with more significant scarring or laxity may need a few more. It's genuinely individual, which is why we plan it properly at your first visit.

Can it be combined with the CO2 laser side of Secret Pro?

Yes. Secret Pro is a dual platform, and in some treatment plans the fractional CO2 laser is used for surface renewal alongside or in rotation with RF microneedling for deeper remodelling. Whether that's right for you depends on your concerns and how much downtime you can accommodate, and it's something your doctor will discuss at consultation.
