It's Never Too Late: Thoughtful Skin Rejuvenation in Your 60s

YT Dr Yasmin Tayeb Published 18 March 2026 · 9 min read

There is a belief that comes up again and again in my consultation room. Patients in their 60s arrive convinced they have somehow missed the window, that they are, as I often put it, too far gone. I hear it, pause, and ask the obvious question back. Why would you think that?

Because it simply isn't true. People in their 60s are one of the most rewarding groups we treat at Wellface. They are curious, they are invested in themselves, and they often arrive with a lifetime of good habits already in place. What they tend to need is not a dramatic intervention but reassurance, honest education and a plan built around their skin as it is today. For a generation who grew up when aesthetic medicine was rarely discussed openly, that reassurance matters enormously.

I see it clearly in my own family. For my mother's generation, walking into an aesthetics clinic can still feel like a taboo. Many patients are shy to tell their friends, shy to ask questions, unsure whether any of this is really for them. So a lot of what happens in that first appointment is quiet, patient conversation. Showing case studies. Explaining what is realistic. Building confidence step by step. And once that trust is there, the results speak for themselves.

Why skin changes in your 60s, and why that's workable

To treat mature skin well, it helps to understand what has actually happened beneath the surface. Collagen, the protein that keeps skin firm and springy, declines steadily from our mid twenties, dropping by roughly one per cent a year. For women, the fall accelerates sharply around menopause as oestrogen levels drop, which is why so many notice a change in their skin quality in a relatively short space of time.

By the 60s, several things have happened at once. The skin holds less hyaluronic acid, so it looks and feels drier and less plump. The collagen and elastin scaffolding that once kept everything taut has thinned, so skin sits more loosely and wrinkles settle deeper. The fat pads that give a younger face its soft cushioning have shifted and shrunk, and there is often some bone remodelling too, particularly around the eye sockets and jaw. Add decades of sun exposure and you get uneven tone, age spots and that crepey, papery texture on the neck and around the eyes.

Here is the encouraging part. Skin at this age still responds. The fibroblasts, the cells that manufacture collagen, can be prompted back into action with the right stimulus. Hydration can be restored. Texture can be smoothed and tone evened out. It may take a little more patience than it would at 40, and the plan is usually built in layers rather than delivered in a single visit, but the improvements are real and they are visible.

The Wellface philosophy: refreshed, not rewritten

One thing I am firm about. We are not trying to change a 60 year old woman or man into a different person. That is not what we do. The goal is the best version of you, the face you recognise in the mirror, looking rested, healthy and defined rather than tired.

Think about how it feels to look in a mirror and genuinely like what you see. When you catch that definition in your cheekbone, that natural highlight across the skin, that softer jawline, you stop wanting to cover it up. You reach for the outfit you actually want to wear rather than the one that hides. I use a lovely phrase for this. You start choosing a haircut to suit your face, rather than a haircut to disguise it. Confidence tends to follow good skin, not the other way around.

Achieving that comes down to skin that looks healthy, contoured, hydrated and lit from within. It is rarely about one hero treatment. It is about combining a few well chosen approaches that each do a specific job, layered over months, so the result looks like nothing more than you on a very good day.

Treatments that suit mature skin

Every plan at Wellface starts with a proper assessment of your skin, your medical history and what you actually want to change. From there, a few categories of treatment tend to do the heavy lifting for skin in its 60s.

Restoring hydration and skin quality

Bio-remodelling and regenerative injectables are often the foundation. Profhilo uses ultra pure hyaluronic acid that spreads through the skin to deliver deep hydration while gently stimulating collagen and elastin. It doesn't add volume or change your shape, it simply improves the quality of the skin itself, so it looks smoother, plumper and more luminous. A typical course is two sessions about four weeks apart, with radiance often showing within a week or two and maintenance every six months or so.

Polynucleotides are the other regenerative option I reach for a lot in mature skin. These are purified DNA fragments, usually derived from salmon, that work at a deeper biological level to wake up tired fibroblasts, support repair and calm inflammation. They are particularly good for crepey texture, thinning skin and the delicate area under the eyes, which is exactly where many patients in their 60s want help. A course is usually three or so sessions spaced a few weeks apart. In practice, I often use Profhilo and polynucleotides together across a longer plan, one restoring glow and firmness, the other rebuilding and strengthening.

Skin boosters and treatments like Aquagold, which delivers tailored ingredients through very fine microchannels, add another layer of hydration and radiance where it's wanted.

Collagen stimulation and skin tightening

Where skin laxity and texture are the main concerns, energy based treatments come into their own. Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency, delivering heat into the deeper layers of the skin to remodel collagen and firm areas like the lower face, jawline and neck. That soft tightening of the jaw and reduction of what patients often call the turkey neck is one of the changes people in their 60s are most delighted to see, and it can be achieved without surgery.

Laser and light based options broaden the toolkit further. BBL Hero targets the brown age spots and diffuse redness that make skin look older and more uneven. Resurfacing treatments such as MOXI and the CO2 and fractional options within Secret Pro improve texture, soften fine lines and encourage fresh collagen. The right choice depends on your skin type, how much downtime suits your life and what you're trying to correct, which is precisely why the consultation comes first.

Subtle contour and expression

A little goes a long way at this stage. Where appropriate, small amounts of dermal filler can restore support to areas that have hollowed, replacing lost structure rather than inflating the face. Anti-wrinkle injections can soften the deeper expression lines that make people look cross or exhausted, used lightly so movement stays natural. The aim is always definition and freshness, never a frozen or overfilled look.

Building a plan that lasts

Good results in mature skin come from sequencing, not from trying to do everything at once. A typical approach might begin with regenerative injectables to rehydrate and strengthen the skin, layer in collagen stimulation to firm and tighten, and address tone and pigment with light based treatments along the way. Between clinic visits, a medical-grade skincare routine and diligent daily SPF do a huge amount to protect the investment. Sun protection in particular is non-negotiable, because ongoing UV exposure is one of the biggest drivers of the changes we are working to reverse.

Maintenance matters too. Regenerative treatments are topped up every six to nine months, energy based treatments are usually done in courses with occasional refreshers, and skincare is daily. None of this is dramatic or demanding. For most people it slots quietly into normal life, and much of it comes with little more than a day or two of looking slightly flushed.

Common questions about skin rejuvenation in your 60s

Is it really not too late to start in my 60s?

No, it genuinely isn't. Skin in your 60s still produces collagen when it's stimulated, still absorbs hydration and still responds to good skincare. You may need a slightly more layered plan and a little more patience for results to build, but the improvements are real. Many of our most satisfied patients started with us in their 60s.

Will treatments make me look done or unnatural?

That is exactly what I work to avoid. My approach is about restoring your own features and skin health, not changing your face. Regenerative and skin quality treatments improve the skin itself without adding volume, and where I do use filler or anti-wrinkle injections, it is in small, considered amounts. The goal is that people say you look well, not that you look different.

How much downtime should I expect?

It depends on the treatment. Injectable skin boosters and bio-remodellers usually involve small bumps or a little redness that settles within a day or so. Morpheus8 and laser resurfacing carry more visible recovery, often a few days of redness, warmth or light flaking depending on the intensity. I will always talk you through the realistic downtime before you commit, so you can plan around work and social events.

How soon will I see results?

Some treatments give an early glow within a week or two, particularly hydration focused ones. Collagen stimulation is slower by nature, with the best results building over two to three months as new collagen forms. This is why I think in terms of a plan across several months rather than a single appointment, and why results tend to keep improving for a while after treatment.

Which treatment should I start with?

There is no single right answer, because it depends entirely on your skin and your priorities. Someone whose main concern is dullness and dehydration might begin with Profhilo, while someone troubled by crepey, fragile skin might start with polynucleotides. If laxity along the jaw is the issue, I might lead with Morpheus8. The honest way to decide is a proper skin assessment, which is what the first consultation is for.
