Wedding Ready at Wellface: How Filler and Anti-Wrinkle Treatments Fit Your Pre-Wedding Plan
There is a version of wedding prep that happens in the last fortnight, all facials and false lashes and a spray tan the day before. And then there is the version that actually shows in your photographs: the one that starts months out, when there is still time for things to settle and for you to change your mind. In the second part of my pre-wedding series, I want to talk through the two treatments most brides ask me about, dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections, and why the calendar matters as much as the treatment itself.
My message is simple. Start now. Not because anything dramatic needs doing, but because subtle work needs time to look like it was always there. A little lift in the cheeks, softer lines across the forehead, lips that look like yours on a very good day. These are the tweaks that read beautifully in close-up shots and hold up under a photographer's lens for hours.
If you are getting married this summer, or next, this is the groundwork worth laying early. Below is how I and the team at Wellface approach it, what each treatment actually does, and the timeline I recommend so that your wedding day is the day everything looks its best.
Why the timeline matters more than the treatment
Filler and anti-wrinkle injections are both quick to have done. You could, in theory, walk in a week before the wedding and walk out treated. The problem is what happens in the days that follow, and that is exactly what you do not want to be discovering the morning of the ceremony.
Anti-wrinkle injections take time to work. The muscle-relaxing effect builds gradually and usually reaches its full result around ten to fourteen days after treatment. In the first week you might see very little, then things soften. If the result is a touch too strong, or slightly uneven, that only becomes clear once it has settled, and a small adjustment can be made. Rushing this leaves no room for that fine-tuning.
Dermal filler brings its own settling period. Immediately after treatment there is often a little swelling, sometimes a small bruise, and the product needs a couple of weeks to integrate with the tissue and soften into its final shape. Lips in particular can look fuller and more swollen for the first few days than they will once everything calms down. Judge lip filler on day two and you will panic. Judge it at two to three weeks and you see the real result.
This is why I am so firm about planning ahead. The treatments themselves are minor. The settling is not something you can hurry, and it is the part that decides whether you look natural or noticeably "done" in your photos.
The trial run: why first-timers should book early
If you have never had anti-wrinkle injections or filler before, a trial treatment several months ahead of the wedding is the single most useful thing you can do. I recommend it precisely because everyone's face responds slightly differently, and the only way to know how yours behaves is to try.
A trial does a few things at once. It shows you how much movement you like to keep, because plenty of people find they prefer a softer, more natural result over a fully frozen forehead. It lets me see how your muscles respond and how long the effect lasts on you specifically, which informs the timing and dosing of the treatment closer to the day. And it gives you the emotional space to get used to seeing yourself treated, so that on your wedding morning nothing feels new or surprising.
For filler, a trial is just as valuable. It reveals how your tissue takes the product, whether you bruise easily, and how the shape sits once it has settled. If we decide you would like a little more, or a slightly different balance, there is time to layer that in gradually rather than chasing a look in a single rushed appointment.
Think of the trial as a rehearsal. You would not wear your dress for the first time on the day, and the same logic applies here.
How many trials do you need?
For most people, one well-planned trial a few months out is plenty, especially when it is done by a doctor who documents exactly what was used and where. If you are particularly nervous, or you are combining several treatments, a second review lets me assess the settled result and refine the plan. The aim is confidence, not endless appointments. By the time your final session comes around, we should both know precisely what suits you.
Dermal fillers: subtle structure, not a new face
Filler is where a lot of brides worry about going too far, and that worry is healthy. My goal is never to change your face. It is to restore or enhance in a way that looks like you have slept well, drunk plenty of water and caught good light.
Cheek filler can be used to add a gentle lift and restore volume that softens the whole face, which in turn can smooth the area beneath the eyes and around the mouth. A small amount of structure high on the cheek reads as freshness rather than fullness. Placed well, nobody should be able to point at what you have had done. They should just think you look well.
Lip filler is the one most people picture, and it is worth being clear about what a good result looks like. Beautifully balanced lips are not necessarily bigger lips. Often the work is about symmetry, defining the border, correcting a slightly uneven shape or adding a little hydration and shape to lips that have thinned. For a wedding, most brides want their lips to look like the best version of their own, not borrowed from someone else. Done conservatively and given time to settle, that is exactly what you get.
Filler can also address other areas depending on your face and your wishes, from softening the lines that run from nose to mouth to refining the chin or jaw for balance. The right plan is always the one built around your features in consultation, which is why a proper assessment comes first.
Anti-wrinkle injections: softening, not freezing
Anti-wrinkle treatment works by relaxing the small muscles that create expression lines, most commonly across the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Relax those muscles and the skin above them creases less, so dynamic lines soften and, over time, the skin has a chance to recover.
For brides, the appeal is obvious. Photographs capture every furrow, and a relaxed, smooth forehead and a soft area around the eyes photograph beautifully. But my emphasis is always on keeping it natural. A completely immobile face can look as unnatural as heavy lines, and it rarely suits the emotion of a wedding day, when you actually want to look like yourself smiling and laughing and occasionally crying.
A carefully judged treatment leaves you with movement and expression while taking the edge off the deeper lines. It can also be used more subtly, for example to lift the tail of the brow a fraction or to soften a gummy smile, though these finer touches are exactly the kind of thing best trialled well in advance.
Results appear over ten to fourteen days and typically last three to four months, which is central to why the timing of your final session matters so much.
The Wellface pre-wedding timeline
Putting it together, here is the rhythm I recommend. It is a guide rather than a rulebook, and I will tailor it to you at consultation.
- Around three to six months before: your first consultation and any trial treatment, especially if you are new to injectables. This is the window for trying, assessing and adjusting without pressure.
- Four to six weeks before the wedding: your final top-up. This is the sweet spot. Anti-wrinkle injections will have reached full effect and any filler will have fully settled by the day, while still looking fresh. It also leaves a small buffer for a review if anything needs the lightest touch.
What I steer people away from is treatment in the final week or two. There is no time for swelling to resolve, no time for a bruise to fade, and no time to refine the result. The whole point of starting early is to remove that risk entirely, so the days before your wedding are spent enjoying yourself, not watching the mirror.
Common questions about wedding-day filler and anti-wrinkle treatment
Will people be able to tell I have had something done?
Done well, no. My approach is deliberately conservative, aimed at making you look like a rested, radiant version of yourself rather than announcing the treatment. The subtlety is the point, and it is far easier to achieve when there is time to build results gradually and let them settle.
Is there any downtime?
Very little. Anti-wrinkle injections leave tiny marks that fade within an hour or so, and most people carry on with their day. Filler can cause some swelling and occasionally a small bruise, particularly with lips, which is another reason to leave several weeks before the wedding. Following your aftercare advice, staying upright for a few hours and avoiding heavy exercise, alcohol and very hot environments straight afterwards all help things settle smoothly.
Can I combine filler and anti-wrinkle treatment?
Yes, and many brides do. The two work on different things, one on volume and structure, the other on expression lines, so they complement each other. I will plan the sequence and spacing so everything peaks at the right time for the wedding.
What if I have never had any treatment before?
Then a trial well in advance is exactly what I would recommend. It removes the guesswork, lets you see how your face responds and gives you the reassurance of knowing the look before the day arrives. Starting early is even more important for first-timers.
How long will the results last?
Anti-wrinkle results generally last three to four months, which is why the final session is timed four to six weeks out. Dermal filler lasts considerably longer, often many months to over a year depending on the product and area, so filler placed a few months ahead will comfortably still be looking its best on the day.
Start your bridal plan with me at Wellface
The brides who look most like themselves on their wedding day are almost always the ones who gave the process time. A trial a few months out, a final refresh four to six weeks before, and a doctor who understands that the brief is you, only more rested. That is what I and the team offer, and it is worth beginning the conversation sooner rather than later.
If a summer wedding is on the horizon, book a consultation with me at our Wellface clinics in Cobham, Esher or Wimbledon. We can plan the whole timeline together, decide what genuinely suits your features and get you walking into your big day feeling like the most confident, natural version of yourself.
