The Wellface Ethos: Enhancing Your Natural Look and Bringing Back the Glow

YT Dr Yasmin Tayeb Published 8 August 2023 · 9 min read

There is a particular kind of result that photographs beautifully from one angle and then falls apart the moment someone starts talking, laughing or turning their head. You have probably seen it. The skin looks smooth in a still image, but in motion something reads as slightly off, slightly separate from the rest of the face. That is exactly the outcome I work to avoid.

My philosophy at Wellface is simple to say and much harder to do well. I am not chasing the dramatic before and after. I am not interested in a change so sudden that friends do a double take. My goal is to maintain and enhance the look that already belongs to you, so that when you glance back at a photo from six months or a year ago, you can genuinely see the difference in your skin and features without being able to point to the single thing that changed.

Much of that difference comes down to skin quality. Dull, tired-looking skin is one of the most common concerns I hear about, and it is also one of the most rewarding to treat, because the improvement builds quietly over time. This is what a considered, doctor-led approach to glow actually looks like, and why it tends to age far more gracefully than a quick fix.

What I mean by a natural look

A natural result is not the same as doing very little. It means the right treatment, in the right amount, in the right place, blended so well that it simply looks like part of you. When that balance is correct, the improvement reads as good health rather than obvious intervention.

Skin that has been looked after properly tends to share a few qualities. The tone is even, without patches of pigmentation breaking up the surface. There is a soft light that bounces off it, the thing most people mean when they talk about glow. Fine lines and wrinkles are softened, but the face still moves, still expresses, still looks like it belongs to a real person with a real range of emotions. Nothing about it looks frozen or borrowed.

The alternative, the drastic overnight change, has a short shelf life. It might impress in the first week, but it rarely wears well, and it almost never looks like the person it was done to. I would far rather work in layers over months than deliver something you can spot from across the room. It is a slower conversation, and a far more satisfying one.

Why skin quality comes first

When skin looks dull, it is usually not one single thing. It is a combination of factors that build up gradually and dim the surface. Understanding what is actually going on makes it much easier to treat properly rather than simply masking the problem.

As we get older, cell turnover slows down, so dead skin cells linger on the surface for longer and scatter light instead of reflecting it cleanly. Collagen and elastin production drops, which affects firmness and that plump, bouncy quality of younger skin. Hydration levels fall, and dehydrated skin looks flat and tired even when it is well moisturised on the outside. Add in sun exposure, pollution, disrupted sleep and years of everyday life, and you get uneven tone, patchy pigmentation and a complexion that has lost its shine.

Glow, in other words, is a by-product of healthy skin function. You cannot paint it on convincingly and expect it to last. It has to be rebuilt from the way the skin behaves: how well it holds water, how quickly it renews itself, how much collagen sits beneath the surface and how even the pigment is across the face. That is why my first priority with almost every patient is the skin itself, before anything else is discussed.

The role of consistency

One good facial will not undo years of dullness, and no honest clinic would claim otherwise. Skin responds to consistency. A course of the right treatment, supported by a sensible routine at home and proper sun protection, is what shifts skin from tired to radiant and then keeps it there. This is where the six month and one year comparisons become so striking. The change is cumulative, and it holds.

The treatments that build a glow over time

There is no single treatment that does everything, which is part of the point. A dull complexion is treated in layers, and the art lies in choosing the right combination for each person. Below are the workhorses I reach for most often, and what each one actually does.

Profhilo and skin boosters

Profhilo is one of the most reliable ways to address the flat, dehydrated look that makes skin appear older than it is. It is made from a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, but rather than adding volume like a traditional filler, it spreads through the skin to deeply hydrate and stimulate the body to produce more collagen and elastin. The result is skin that looks firmer, plumper and noticeably more luminous. It is usually delivered as two sessions a month apart, with maintenance a couple of times a year.

Other injectable skin boosters work on a similar principle, delivering hyaluronic acid and sometimes vitamins and antioxidants into the skin to improve hydration and quality from within. They suit people whose main complaint is that their skin simply looks tired and lacks bounce.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are a newer and genuinely exciting option for skin quality. Derived from purified DNA fragments, they work as a repair signal, calming inflammation, improving elasticity and encouraging the skin to regenerate itself. They are particularly useful for delicate areas such as under the eyes, and for skin that looks crepey, thin or generally run down. As part of a wider plan, they help build the kind of resilience that makes everything else look better too.

Hydrafacial and Aquagold

Not every glow treatment involves needles. A Hydrafacial cleanses, exfoliates and deeply hydrates the skin in one session, lifting away dead cells and congestion while infusing tailored serums. It is the classic choice before an event, because the brightness is immediate and there is no downtime. Aquagold goes a step further, using tiny microchannels to deliver a bespoke cocktail of ingredients just beneath the surface for a refined, radiant finish.

Lasers and energy devices

When pigmentation and texture are the main issues, energy-based treatments earn their place. BBL Hero uses broadband light to target pigmentation and redness, evening out tone so the complexion looks clearer. MOXI is a gentler laser resurfacing option that refreshes and brightens with very little downtime, which makes it a favourite for people who want glow without a dramatic recovery. For deeper concerns such as texture, scarring and more advanced ageing, Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency to remodel the skin, while CO2 laser resurfacing with the Secret Pro system offers more intensive renewal. Which of these is right depends entirely on your skin, which is why the assessment matters so much.

Fillers that move with your face

The same philosophy carries straight into how I approach fillers. A well-placed filler should look like it was always meant to be there. It should sit as part of the face, move with the rest of it, and never announce itself when you smile or turn to the side.

The difference between a beautiful result and an obvious one usually comes down to four things: the right quantity, the correct location, the appropriate depth, and proper blending. Too much product, or product placed too superficially, or in the wrong plane, is what creates that alien quality where a cheek or a lip looks separate from the person wearing it. It might photograph acceptably in a single flattering shot, but seen in conversation it gives the game away.

I treat filler as an anatomical exercise, not a cosmetic one. That means understanding how the face changes with age, supporting structure where it has been lost, and restoring balance so subtly that the eye simply reads the face as rested and well. When it is done properly, nobody should be able to tell what you have had done. They should only notice that you look like yourself, on a good day.

Common questions about achieving a natural glow

How long before I see a real difference in my skin?

Some treatments, such as a Hydrafacial, give an immediate brightness that is perfect before an event. The deeper changes in skin quality, from Profhilo, polynucleotides or laser work, build over several weeks as collagen production increases. Most people notice a meaningful difference within a month or two, and the full benefit of a course usually becomes clear across three to six months. It is worth thinking of it as an investment that keeps paying off rather than a one-off event.

Which treatment is best for dull skin?

There is no single answer, because dullness has different causes in different people. If the main issue is dehydration and lost bounce, Profhilo or skin boosters tend to help most. If it is pigmentation and uneven tone, BBL Hero or a laser may be more appropriate. Often the best result comes from combining a couple of approaches. A consultation is the only reliable way to know what your skin actually needs.

Will treatments make me look overdone?

Not with a considered plan. My whole ethos here is to avoid the overdone look. Treatments are chosen and dosed so the improvement is gradual and natural, and I will always advise against anything that risks tipping you into looking treated rather than well.

Is there much downtime?

It varies by treatment. Hydrafacial and MOXI have little to no downtime, so many people return to their day straight afterwards. Injectable treatments can cause small, short-lived bumps or bruising. More intensive laser resurfacing needs a proper recovery period. I will talk you through exactly what to expect before you commit to anything.

How do I keep the results?

Good skincare and diligent sun protection do a great deal of the work between appointments, and I will recommend medical-grade products suited to your skin. Most treatments are then topped up periodically, whether that is a Profhilo refresh a couple of times a year or an occasional facial to keep the surface bright. Consistency is what protects the investment.
