Why Every Treatment at Wellface Starts With a Proper Consultation
There is a moment, usually early on, when someone walks into the clinic having already decided exactly what they want. A little filler here. A dose of anti-wrinkle injections there. They have seen it online, a friend has had it done, and they would quite like to get straight to the treatment couch. It is a completely understandable instinct. It is also the point at which I gently slow things down.
At Wellface, we don't carry out any treatment, and certainly not any injectable treatment, without a full consultation first. That is not a formality or a box to tick. It is the single most important appointment you will have with me, because everything that follows depends on getting it right. The best results almost never come from the most product or the newest device. They come from the right plan, matched to the right face, at the right time.
This post explains what actually happens in that first conversation, why it matters so much, and how a thorough assessment protects both your money and your appearance. If you have been putting off booking because you weren't sure what to expect, this should make the whole thing feel a good deal more approachable.
Why the consultation comes before anything else
Injectables and energy-based treatments work on living, moving tissue. A face is not a flat canvas. It has muscle, fat pads, bone, blood vessels and skin that all behave differently depending on age, genetics and how you use your expressions. Two people can ask for the same thing and need completely different treatments to get there. A consultation is where I work out which one you are.
Take a common example. Someone points to the lines between their brows and asks for filler. When I watch the face at rest and then in motion, I might see that those lines only appear when they frown, which usually means anti-wrinkle injections are the safer and more effective choice. Filler in that particular area carries real risk and often isn't the right tool at all. Without assessing the face properly, you can end up treating the symptom in the wrong way entirely.
There is also the matter of your medical history. Certain medications, allergies, skin conditions, previous treatments and even upcoming events all shape what is sensible and when. Some things are best avoided in the weeks around a treatment. Some concerns need addressing in a particular order. None of that can be judged from a photograph or a quick chat at the door, which is exactly why I insist on doing it properly first.
What actually happens in a Wellface consultation
A good consultation is a conversation, not a sales pitch. I take the time to understand your skin, listen to what is bothering you and look closely at your face before anyone reaches for a syringe. Here is how that tends to unfold.
Understanding your skin and your face
I start by looking. I'll examine your skin quality, its texture, tone and elasticity, along with your facial structure and how everything sits and moves. I look at symmetry, at volume, at how light falls across your features. This part matters because the thing you have noticed in the mirror is often a knock-on effect of something else. Tired-looking eyes can be about skin quality rather than volume. A heavy jawline can be about skin laxity rather than fat. Seeing the whole picture stops me treating one area in isolation and creating imbalance elsewhere.
Talking through your goals, short and long term
I ask what you are actually trying to achieve. Not just "I want filler", but what you want to look and feel like, and by when. Some people have a specific event in mind. Others are thinking years ahead and want to age slowly and naturally. Those are very different briefs. Understanding your short-term goals and your long-term goals lets me sequence treatments sensibly rather than chasing quick fixes that don't add up to anything coherent.
This is also where I set honest expectations. Part of a doctor's job is to tell you what a treatment can realistically do, what it cannot, and how long results tend to last. Anti-wrinkle injections are usually repeated every three to four months as the effect wears off. Hyaluronic acid fillers might last somewhere between six and twelve months depending on the product and the area. Skin quality treatments like Profhilo, polynucleotides or a course of microneedling build gradually and reward patience. Knowing the timelines up front means no surprises later.
Suggesting options you may not have considered
Here is one of the quiet advantages of seeing a doctor-led team. Sometimes the treatment you came in asking for isn't the one that will serve you best, and we have something in the clinic you simply hadn't heard of. Someone convinced they need filler for tired skin might do far better with a skin booster or Profhilo. Someone worried about texture and pores might be a better candidate for Morpheus8, a resurfacing laser or a peel. Because we offer a broad range of treatments under one roof, I can point you towards what genuinely fits, rather than the only thing on a limited menu.
The value of a doctor-led team
Wellface is an advanced medical-led aesthetic clinic, and that shapes every consultation. Our team of doctors, dentists and therapists work together, which means your face is being assessed by people with a deep understanding of facial anatomy, not just injection technique learned on a short course. That anatomical knowledge is what keeps treatments safe and results natural.
It also means you get more than one perspective when it helps. A complex case might benefit from more than one clinician's input, and because everyone works to shared protocols, that collaboration is seamless from your side. You are not being handed between strangers with different philosophies. You are being looked after by a team that agrees on what good, natural work looks like.
Part of our responsibility is the work you never see. We research the products we use, test protocols and choose devices carefully so that by the time something is offered to you in the clinic, it has already been vetted. You get to sit comfortably, have the treatment and trust that the thinking behind it has been done properly. As we often put it, our job is to have the "what next" covered so you don't have to worry about it.
Turning the consultation into a personalised plan
Everything gathered in the consultation feeds into a plan built around you. That is the real output of the appointment, more valuable than any single treatment. A personalised plan sets out what to treat, in what order, and over what sort of timeframe, with the aim of results that look natural and last.
Sequencing is where experience really shows. Skin health often comes first, because injectables sit better on well-hydrated, well-supported skin. Structural treatments might follow. Maintenance is scheduled so results are topped up before they fade rather than after, which keeps everything looking consistent rather than swinging between "done" and "worn off". Faces age at different rates in different areas, so your plan is expected to evolve. What you need this year may not be what you need in two, and a good plan has room to adjust.
None of this commits you to spending more. Often a considered plan means doing less, spaced sensibly, rather than more all at once. The goal is the outcome, not the number of treatments along the way.
How to get the most from your consultation
A little preparation goes a long way. Come with a rough sense of what bothers you and what you would like to change, even if you are not sure how to fix it. That is my job. It helps to arrive without heavy make-up if you can, so your skin can be assessed clearly, and to bring a list of any medications, supplements and past treatments. Photographs of yourself from a few years ago can be useful when the goal is to restore rather than change, though they are by no means essential.
Most of all, come ready to ask questions and to hear honest answers. If a treatment isn't right for you, I will say so. If the timing is wrong, I will tell you that too. A consultation that ends with "let's wait" or "let's do something different" is still a successful one.
Common questions about aesthetic consultations
Do I have to have treatment on the same day?
Not at all. Some people are ready to proceed once they understand their options, and where it is appropriate I can often treat on the same visit. Others prefer to go away and think, which is completely fine. There is never any pressure. The consultation stands on its own as a chance to get expert advice and a clear plan.
Why can't I just book the treatment I already want?
Because I can only recommend and carry out a treatment safely once I have assessed your face and health in person. What looks like the obvious fix from the outside sometimes isn't, and injectables in particular carry risks that depend on your individual anatomy. The consultation is what allows me to do the treatment well, or to steer you towards something better suited.
What if I don't really know what I want?
That is one of the most common ways people arrive, and it is absolutely fine. You don't need the vocabulary or a diagnosis. Tell me what you notice in the mirror or how you would like to feel, and I will translate that into options and explain the trade-offs. Guiding you through that is precisely what the appointment is for.
Is the consultation suitable if I've had work done elsewhere?
Yes. It helps to know what you have had, when, and where, so do share as much as you can remember. Understanding your history lets me plan around existing treatments and avoid combining things in ways that don't sit well together.
Will I be told if a treatment isn't a good idea for me?
Every time. Saying no, or not yet, is part of responsible practice. If something carries more risk than benefit for you, or if a different approach would serve you better, I will say so plainly. Honest advice is the whole point of seeing a medical team.
