Sculptra in Cobham, the patient path to firmer skin.
Sculptra® by Galderma at our clinic on Cobham High Street: a collagen stimulator that works quietly over months, planned and placed by our doctors with a review included.
A treatment that rewards patience, in a clinic with plenty of it
Most of what people imagine about injectables involves a mirror and an instant change. Sculptra® asks for something different: time. It is a biostimulator, which means it adds no instant volume at all. Instead it prompts your body to lay down its own collagen over the weeks and months that follow, so any improvement arrives gradually and is genuinely hard to pinpoint. That pace suits Cobham. Wellface began in this village, and the clinic still runs the way a good practice should: a doctor at every visit, consultations with room to think, and no pressure to do more than your face needs.
What Sculptra actually is
Sculptra is made by Galderma from poly-L-lactic acid, usually shortened to PLLA. It is biodegradable, and it is not a filler in the familiar sense. Rather than occupying space the moment it is placed, it prompts your body to lay down fresh collagen of its own over the weeks and months that follow. Any fullness you notice straight after treatment is fluid and swelling, and it settles. The change that matters builds quietly underneath, which is why a good result tends to read as you on a good year rather than you after an appointment.
Who it tends to suit
Sculptra is for gradual, diffuse improvement rather than sharp, targeted change. For suitable patients, our Cobham doctors consider it when the concern is one of these:
- Facial volume that has softened gradually across the face
- Skin that feels less firm than it used to
- Skin that has thinned and lost some of its substance
- A wish for change that friends sense but cannot quite place
It is not a lip treatment, and it is not the right tool for a single crease or one precise contour. If either of those is your real concern, your doctor will say so and point you towards something better suited.
A course, planned over months
Galderma describes a typical course as around three sessions spaced over several months, and that rhythm is part of what keeps the change so understated. At Wellface the number of sessions and vials is personalised at consultation, because two faces with similar concerns rarely need the same plan. Treatment is £500 per vial, with additional vials discounted from the fourth vial onwards, and your doctor sets out the full plan and its cost before anything is placed. A review appointment is included, so progress is checked properly rather than assumed.
The appointment itself
Allow about 45 minutes. Every new client starts with a consultation, and if Sculptra is suitable the treatment may sometimes go ahead the same day. Your doctor maps the plan against how your face sits at rest and in movement, and photographs are taken so a slow change can be measured rather than remembered. Afterwards, swelling, tenderness, bruising, redness or itching can occur, and lumps or nodules can appear later, one reason the review matters. Your doctor may prescribe a short massage routine, commonly five minutes, five times a day, for five days.
Four doctors, one standard
Sculptra in Cobham is performed only by doctors: Dr Yasmin Tayeb, Wellface’s founder, Dr Olivia McCormack, Dr Bianca Coveva and Dr Ghazala Khan. There are no therapists involved and no delegated injections. The doctor who plans your course places each session and sees you at review, so the judgement about whether to add, wait or stop sits with someone who has followed your face from the start. Rare vascular complications are possible with any facial injectable, and our doctors work to established emergency protocols, which is part of why a medical setting matters.
Sculptra, filler or something else?
Because Cobham holds our most complete treatment menu, your doctor can be candid about alternatives. Hyaluronic acid fillers restore volume immediately at specific points and can be dissolved if ever needed. Sculptra adds no instant volume and, not being hyaluronic acid, cannot be dissolved in the same way, which is exactly why it is planned with care. Some faces are better served by filler, some by Sculptra, some by a sequence of both, and some by nothing yet. Results from a course can last around two years, with individual variation, so the decision deserves an unhurried conversation.
Your own collagen, rebuilt
Sculptra is a regenerative biostimulator made by Galderma. Instead of filling a line, its poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microparticles prompt your skin to rebuild its own collagen and elastin, working across all three layers of the skin. Here is how a course at Wellface Cobham works on your skin.
Placed
Your doctor places PLLA microparticles in the deeper layers of the skin, exactly where your plan needs support.
Recognised
Your skin answers with a gentle, controlled renewal response and fibroblasts begin making new collagen.
Rebuilt
Galderma’s studies show type I collagen up by 66.5% at three months, with elastin stimulated too.
Renewed
The PLLA is absorbed naturally over the following months, leaving your own firmer tissue in place.
From our twenties collagen falls by around 1% a year. The surface thins, the dermis loses firmness and elasticity, and the deepest layer loses the support that holds volume.
PLLA has been used in medicine since the 1960s and in dissolvable stitches since the 1970s. Sculptra was first approved in Europe in 1999 and is used in more than 40 countries.
Galderma reports results lasting more than two years. In its survey two years after treatment, 89% of patients said their results looked natural and 92% felt more confident.
