Radiesse for the neck: is it right for yours?

Crepey skin on the neck is one reason people ask about Radiesse®. Dr Yasmin Tayeb uses it in her own practice, and your doctor will assess you before advising whether it is right for your neck or whether something else would serve you better.

What to know about Radiesse and the neck

Radiesse® is a biostimulator made by Merz Aesthetics: calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres in a gel, which prompt your skin to make new collagen and elastin. Merz’s UK page lists facial areas, including the jawline, along with the backs of the hands and, when diluted, décolleté wrinkles. It does not list the neck.

We mention that because the reason Radiesse appears here is clinical experience, not a manufacturer’s claim. Dr Yasmin Tayeb, our founder, treats crepey skin on the neck with Radiesse and describes it as “amazing for the neck, really improving the crepiness in the neck”.

That is her experience, not a promise of your result. Your doctor decides whether Radiesse is suitable for your neck after assessing you, and will tell you plainly if it is not.

Crepey skin

Why a neck turns crepey

Crepey skin is a question of quality more than shape. As collagen and elastin production slow, skin loses firmness and spring, and it can start to crease like tissue paper. The neck also tends to age quietly, while most of the attention goes to the face.

Because Radiesse prompts new collagen and elastin, it is a fair question to ask. But the response is gradual, and improving the quality of crepey skin is a different job from lifting loose skin. Separating those two things is the first step of a good assessment.

Neck and jawline

Why the jawline is part of the conversation

The neck rarely changes alone. As skin softens, the edge of the jaw can start to flow into the neck, so what looks like a neck concern may partly be a jawline concern. Merz lists the jawline for Radiesse®+ and describes defined lower face and jawline contours, so for some patients the plan may begin there.

At assessment your doctor looks at the two together:

  • How much of the change is crepey skin, and how much is loosening or sagging
  • Whether the jawline has lost its edge
  • Any lines or bands in the neck, which can call for a different treatment
  • Your medical history and any previous treatments

What treatment would involve

01

The appointment

About 45 minutes with a doctor. Radiesse®+ contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to help with comfort.

02

The collagen response

An initial change may be visible. Collagen-related improvement usually shows from around three months and continues through six months and beyond.

03

Looking ahead

Dr Yasmin describes an improvement that can last well over a year before a top-up is considered, varying with the area, the amount and the individual. A review is included.

Alternatives

Other good options for the neck

Radiesse is one option among several. In her reel on the neck, Dr Yasmin’s three favourites are microneedling radiofrequency, polynucleotides or skin boosters, and anti-wrinkle treatment, so your doctor may well suggest one of these instead, or alongside.

Morpheus8

Microneedling with radiofrequency, which stimulates collagen in the deeper layers and can help contour and tighten sagging skin. Available in Cobham and Wimbledon.

Polynucleotides

Micro-injections that stimulate fibroblasts, boosting collagen and elastin, and can enhance elasticity, texture and firmness.

Every neck concern

Why it matters

Why collagen matters for the neck

Collagen is what keeps skin firm, and we lose around 1% of it a year from our twenties. A collagen biostimulator prompts your skin to make more of its own, so the aim is stronger, better-quality skin that builds gradually. That is why Dr Yasmin values Radiesse for crepey skin on the neck, where the skin itself is often the main concern.

Radiesse is not hyaluronic acid, so it cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, and your doctor plans it with care. Treatment is usually deferred during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Bruising, swelling, redness, tenderness and small lumps can occur and settle, and rarely nodules or inflammation can develop. As with any injectable, rare vascular complications are possible, and our doctors work to emergency protocols.

To read more about the product, see how Radiesse works on our main treatment page. To see how it compares with HArmonyCa and Sculptra, read our guide to collagen stimulators.

Questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Not on its UK page, which lists facial areas, the backs of the hands and, when diluted, décolleté wrinkles. Where our doctors consider Radiesse for a neck, it is a clinical judgement made for you individually, and your doctor will explain this before you decide.

Because it stimulates collagen and elastin. In Dr Yasmin's clinical experience it can improve crepiness in the neck, although your own result may differ.

Our doctors talk about Radiesse for crepey skin rather than loose skin. If sagging or a turkey neck is your main concern, your doctor may suggest Morpheus8 instead.

Your doctor will say so and talk you through the alternatives, which may include Morpheus8, polynucleotides, skin boosters or anti-wrinkle treatment.
