Why Dark Circles Under the Eyes Need a Consultation, Not a Quick Fix

Hi everyone, so today I wanted to mention a little thing about darkness under the eyes and lots of patients give us a call saying can I book in for tear trough filler because I've got a lot of darkness under my eyes but for us it's really important that we do a full consultation before promising the patient that we will do tear trough fillers. Darkness under the eyes can mean so many different things. First of all is it pigmentation?

Is the skin underneath the eyes actually a different color? Because if it is hydroquinone from Obagi can actually really help with that but it's a prescription only medication, it's a prescription only cream so we need to do a patch test and make sure that it's appropriate for the patient, that's number one. The second thing is actually the location and the area of the tear trough.

Is it dark because it's too hollow and so there's a natural shadow under that area and actually the skin is not dark at all, the skin is a normal color compared to the rest of the face and so we need to be thinking tear trough filler or skin booster and then if the treatment, if the patient's skin is actually really poor quality where the skin is really crepey, it's very thin, it's very fragile and the skin in that area makes the patient look older and more tired and not actually the location, then usually it's a treatment for either microneedling radiofrequency to improve the skin quality, a skin booster like the NCTF or Profilo and a whole other bunch of cocktails of treatments that we can do as well.
