Glycolic Acid Face Wash: Why a Gentle Chemical Exfoliant Belongs in Your Routine
A glycolic acid face wash pairs two well-studied acids to dissolve dead skin, brighten dull patches and keep pores clear, all without the redness of a scrub. Here is how it works, how to use it three times a week and who tends to benefit most.

So the first product I'm going to talk about, which is probably my favorite product, is the Glycolic Wash. Okay, so it comes in a huge pot. This is my first Glycolic Wash that I bought from them and I'm still using it.
It will last you absolutely ages and especially when you're using it with all of the products, you will only require a small amount of each product because they work beautifully with each other. So you won't need to use a huge amount of one product and then a little bit of the other one. Using them all together will make the biggest difference to your skin.
So what is the Glycolic Wash? The Glycolic Wash has two ingredients in it. It has two active ingredients, let's put it that way.
The Glycolic Acid, which is at 5% and Salicylic Acid, which is at 2%. They work together to act as an exfoliator. Our normal idea of an exfoliator is a sugary wash or microbeads of washing and you rub it on your skin or a Clarisonic, the machine that you can use on your skin that really abrasively and aggressively lifts the dead skin off your face.
This is not like that. This acts by dissolving the dead skin and so leaves the skin feeling bright, feeling fresher for sure, looking brighter. And it gives the skin that really beautiful velvety feeling that, you know, just everything glides on it.
This is an absolute must really for everyone. It does not leave any areas of redness. So where, for example, you could be using the Clarisonic or you could be using a sugar scrub and you want your skin to be beautiful before you go to a party and before you put loads of makeup on.
But when you use a scrub, even though it might feel great afterwards, you will have areas of redness where you've been too aggressive. This doesn't act like that. It's very soft.
It doesn't have any microbeads in it. And it's acting in a chemical way. So it's a chemical exfoliator.
It's really beautiful if you have pigmentation. So by brightening the skin, those areas of pigmentation can really reduce. If you have acne, again, the salicylic acid, which is at 2%, can reduce the amount of sebum created.
And so it reduces the amount of acne that is taking place or that is happening, the active acne that is happening. What else does it do? We've talked about dark spots, treating acne, the sebum reduction.
So that's reducing the acne. And it really unclogs the skin, makes it feel fresher, definitely makes it look brighter. And because it's unclogging even your pores, especially those who don't like the way that they have large pores, because it's unclogging it, you're not going to have any blackheads.
You're not going to have these big pores which are showing because they're filled with the gunk of the day. Your pores start to look smaller, cleaner, and your face really looks brighter with it. You only need to use this three times a week.
That's what I do. I only use it three times a week. And that's whether I've put lots of makeup on that week or if I've had no makeup on that week.
The way to use it is you use it as if like a mini face mask. So you'd wash your face if you've had any makeup on, you'd clean your face. If you haven't had any makeup on, then you would apply it directly onto dry skin.
Okay? It has to be clean, dry skin. And you massage it into your face.
And as you're doing that massaging action, you're just getting it into all the areas around your nose, your lips, you know, any of the problem areas that you have and making sure it reaches every part of your skin. You wait a couple of minutes as it starts to dissolve the dead skin and do the action that it needs to do. And then with a hot, warm towel, a wet towel, you can just wipe it off or you can just wash your face normally.
And then you apply the second round of products that you would need, the moisturiser and so on that I'll talk about later. It makes your skin feel absolutely beautiful as well as looking absolutely beautiful. The only time I would use this, not in the evening, before bed, like I said, as a mini face mask, is if I'm going to a really special party and when applying my makeup, I want to have that feeling where the foundation is really gliding and everything feels super smooth because that is the effect that it does.
So in that instance, that is the only time that I would use it during the day or before going to bed, let's say, as a daytime routine and not as a night routine. As I would put it on, do the same thing, leave it on for two minutes, wash it off, put all the other moisturisers on and then apply my makeup and it feels amazing. Otherwise, three times a week is all you need.
You do not need to use it every single day. That is not good for your skin. You do not want to remove all the barriers and all the layers of dead skin and so on from your face.
Three times a week is more than enough. If you're using another glycolic acid wash or another one on the market, which is a toner, it feels amazing just for that instance, but then it doesn't do anything. And I have patients who've said to me, I'm using my glycolic wash twice a day.
Every single day. That's not good. You either don't have it at a good quality concentration or it's not at a good level of the ingredient.
Okay, it's very much diluted. So what I like to do is I like to show all my patients what this is. It is not a toner.
It's not watery. It is a gel and it is very thick. So it is a very thick.
It's a very thick gel. Now, for my face, one of these is enough. If I'm feeling really generous that day, I would use two squirts.
And that's why, you can see from the back of the bottle, I still have a huge amount left in it. And it has lasted me forever. This is my first glycolic wash that I ever bought.
So that is the glycolic wash. I highly recommend it. I love it.
I wouldn't go anywhere without it. And there's not a single patient that I have recommended it to who hasn't loved it. So if you have any more questions or you'd like to know more about it, please do message me and I will get back to you.
And hopefully I will see you about the next products and what they do. Take care.
